Originally posted by tornado View Postif you have "legal" understanding then this statement can mean more than one thing...
we know he wasn't the only person called, nor interviewed, not even discussed terms...
so perhaps he's the only one that got far enough along to have a hard copy of a contract placed in front of him..thus fitting Dr. Cross' definition of the "only on offered the job"...
either way -- each can believe as they want, but why did Dr. C even put that comment into his statements when everyone knows we are 3 weeks into a process and several other candidates have turned Bradley down???
I think it's just careful word parsing and spin.......but so what -- let's move on........When the people fear their government, there is tyranny; when the government fears the people, there is liberty.

According to Cross:
Geno Ford was the only coach offered the BU job!
Very interesting to hear.
How is that making something an issue. I posted a direct quote? When the people fear their government, there is tyranny; when the government fears the people, there is liberty.

I actually find it a little odd that he felt he needed to say it.
Just to let us know that this was guy that was the "perfect" fit?
In any event I don't care...I'm all for moving on as well. congrats to Geno..
now lets get Keno to Missouri State...and if Marshall leaves there has to be a coach Reno somehwere

He may not have 'offered' meaning a contract put in front of someone, but I find it VERY hard to believe he did not say to at least Jeter 'if BU were to offer you XXX...' etc. In my experience negotiating job offers, I didn't get an offical offer until the negotiation was done. I hope Cross isn't using a technicallity to save face, if so, it could haunt him (hopefully not).Bradley 72 - Illini 68 Final

Originally posted by Beninator View PostOnce again, I agree with you. I have no doubt that Cross is an intelligent person, but his use of words during this situation is very curious. "Offered" in this case, and "great coach" in other instances, leaves the door open for different interpretations. Certainly his statements could have been worded much better. jmho
To those questioning: You are not offered a job until you talk strict financial aspects. Just because you are interviewed doesnt mean you were offered the job. Also, if a coach expressed no interest, how could he turn down a job that he was "offered" if he expressed no interest?!

The wording in those statements were poor and open to multiple interpretations! Much more generic terms could have been used to alleviate negative interpretations.Bradley 72 - Illini 68 Final

You guys have gotta start taking things a little less seriously. Cross says he is the only guy - he is the only guy. The only other things that we have to go on are some blurbs written about some coaches (Sutton and Jeter) that WERE NOT offerred, who now may need to save a little face with their admin, fans, and team. If I'm them...I'd "withdraw" every single time I don't get offerred a better gig.
The guy says they only offerred one guy...that doesn't seem open to interpretation.
