While I support the new coach, and hope he does well, I am also underwhelmed with this hire given the report of the money that was offered. With this type of hire, we should have been able to attract a much more experienced coach! If for no other reason, let's look at the salaries of other MVC coaches. I can be very wrong with this, but I believe that Lowery at SIU is the highest paid MVC coach with a base salary around $750k/year. This hire could work out, but it appears that we got desperate and threw way too much money to Ford. jmho
I believe Gregg Marshall and Greg McDermott are the highest paid and are both right around a million per season. It looks like it's good to be named Greg(g).

If what's being reported is correct, BU is now paying in the top 3-4 MVC schools (WSU, CU, SIU)

SIU is the cautionary tale of paying a ton of money when you didn't have to.

I hope this works out. If Ford does well, BU fans will support him and dollars will roll in to offset his salary. If not, BU is SIU.

      If the numbers are true....

BU is moving up to the big time. Of course with that, comes greater expectations.

I'm not concerned about the salary. It has to be looked at as an investment. The question is how much more money do we have for a staff?

I need to change her soon! She's been up since the WS.

But certain investments are riskier than others! The money thrown out there concerns me as I think that we overpaid for this guy given the report that is out there.

I would have to think some of those incentives are very hard to reach; butler-esque if you will. He very likely won't get paid 900k on any one year but you can bet that the dollar amount on the incentives are less than the value of actually winning those incentives would be to the University....

Plenty of schools our size and with fans as dedicated at ours make larger financial commitments than 700k...I'm not too worried about his level of pay. Plus we haven't heard anything official on this have we...maybe its more around the 500-600k mark. Either way, I'm sure most know we were making a bargain on JL and that probably wasn't going to happen again.

there are and likely never will be any official or confirmed comments from anyone on either the pay or the length of the contract and in fact,
there was never any confirmation from any source of any term in either Mo's or JL's contract, so I think this one will be the same...
thus everything is rumor or speculative......believe any report at your own risk...

It's irrelevant. They wouldn't pay him if they didn't have the money.

But it is what you do with the money that BU has, and how efficiently the money is handled that is relevant! jmho

I think what matters is the return on that investment. We will find out what that return is in the coming years.
