  • Kansas' legacy of boosting mid-majors' image!

Kansas has a remarkable tendency to lose to mid-majors in the NCAA Tourney..
come on...they are Kansas -- their entire roster are McDonald's All Americans...this shouldn't happen

2005 - NCAA record was 0-1 lost to Bucknell
2006 - NCAA record was 0-1 lost to Bradley
2007 - NCAA record was 3-1 beat Niagara, Kentucky, SIU - lost to UCLA
2008 - NCAA record was 6-0 National Champs - beating only two BCS schools the other four were non-BCS - which all the more makes those other years so amusing!
2009 - NCAA record was 2-1 - beating two very low seeds, then losing to Michigan State
2010 - NCAA record was 1-1 - beat only Lehigh then lost to UNI
2011 - NCAA record was 3-1 - beat Ilinois, Boston U., and Richmond, then lost to VCU

System, Teaching Players, Game Planning, Communication & Motivation, Managing Games, and, In Game Adjustments apparently count as much as having the most talented players. Or, the allocades/awards given to HS recruits /JC transfers aren't as reliable as we would like to think.

      And/Or

Top level Mid Majors who reach the NCAA can have enough really good players to win a game....doesn't apparently take more than 2-3 per team....particularly in NCAA's when teams have little time to prepare and all players playing on fumes in later rounds.

Plus the mid major teams tend to have upper class men who have played together for a while vs BCS teams with 1-2 and done future NBA-ers on their rosters.

Wonder, if a future coach great at #1, but can't recruit the top talent, vs other MVC schools, can still win the Valley/Valley Tourney?

Here's a great story and this'll interest anyone who feels like I do about Kansas...

University of Minnesota football coach spotted an 11 year old kid watching football practice while wearing a Kansas jersey...

"Kill didn't kick any players out of practice, but he almost ejected a fan. As the
players stretched, he rushed over to 11-year-old Ryan Tiers, who was making
the mistake of wearing a Kansas Jayhawks sweatshirt, and pretended to call for
security. "He told me this is Minnesota, not Kansas," Tiers said."

???It??™s awful hard,??™??™ said Illini freshman guard D.J. Richardson, the former Central High School guard who played prep school ball a few miles from here and fought back tears outside the locker room. ???It??™s a hometown thing. It??™s bragging rights.??™
