Painter met with Missouri today and is interested, but he wants time to make a decision-
    http://www.kansascity.com/2011/03/29/2761400_painter-will-wait-a-day-to-make.html?storylink=omni_popular#

Purdue students tried to put together a rally via Facebook to show support for Matt Painter to get him to stay at Purdue. They had hoped to have hundreds of fans and students show up.
Instead, less than a dozen showed up! I guess nobody really cares!
Less than a dozen come to Painter rally

Students stunned at low rally turnout

I'll give the big 12 die hard lovers a tie.........but no way is the big 12 better currently
I guess I meant competitively. The Big 10 had 2 more teams in the tourney, and one of those was the most questionable choices of the tourney in Michigan State.

Of Course the Big 10 has more money, they have the Big 10 network with fewer schools to split it amongst. I really wanted the Big 10 to get Mizzou rather than Nebraska, because outside of football Nebraska doesnt really bring anything to the table, especially in basketball when Wichita absolutely THROTTLED them.

Anyway, the main point of my post was that there are 3 major(BCS) Division 1 NCAA athletic programs in the state of Indiana in IU, Purdue, and Notre Dame. In Missouri, there is only Mizzou. The ENTIRE state rallies around Mizzou. As a coach I would love to have the kind of support that Mizzou fans, as misguided sometimes as it can be, give that university. Not to mention Mizzou Arena is a great venue for college basketball and is basically brand new.

        gotcha main point.

keep this between you and me....the big ten was 1-7 against big 12 teams this year....but 5 of those losses were either Kansas or Texas and Ohio State, Purdue, MSU, Wisconsin (only KSU in tourney) didn't get a shot at any big 12 teams.

        and I hate Mizzou

It was a smart move in the end on Painter's part. I can't see how he could have ever seriously considered moving on from Purdue to Columbia, it seems like a large step down to me. Especially being a former player at Purdue, but I guess he got the raise he was lookin for.

If that was a bluff, it was one of the more impressive bluffs in coaching contract history. After two days of gradually increased uncertainty about Matt Painter's future at Purdue, ESPN's own Andy Katz is reporting, per a source, that Painter will remain at the school.

Here's a great read...the mother of all coaching hires gone bad

....it's an article about when Missouri picked a new head coach a decade ago...
they narrowed their search to three fine candidates...

The guy they chose was Quin Snyder, the guys they turned down were Bill Self & John Calipari...

"When Mike Alden, the school's athletic director, selected the young Duke
assistant over his two other leading candidates -- a couple of guys named
John Calipari and Bill Self -- he raved that his new coach would bring energy
and excitement to a sound-yet-uninspiring Division I program."

Six years ago, Quin Snyder piloted Missouri to the Elite Eight. Now he's coaching in the D-League.

                        Here's an interesting story....

Missouri AD Mike Alden tried to woo Matt Painter and lure him to coming to Missouri and offered somewhere in the range of $2.5 Million+...

And yet when Alden introduced Haith at Missouri last night he said this...

"Frank Haith was the only man offered the job".....hmmm..sound familiar??

"Most in these parts had never heard of Frank Haith...Haith is a coach with an average record,
who according to Athletic Director Mike Alden was the only person he offered the job to.
I guess that is why Matt Painter had to come out and say he was staying at Purdue
with a handsome raise because he was not offered the Mizzou job.
                        OK, I will play along."

funny that like 10 sources pop up saying Painter to Mizzou when he wasn't even offered

I hate missouri and felt like they would be getting a lucky steal if painter showed up...but it would have definitely been a downgrade

I understand you hate Mizzou.. you say it all the time. And I think many if not most posters would agree this would have been a sideways move at best for Painter.

But Missouri has a lot of positives.
Since 1998 Mizzou's athletic budget has gone from $13.7 to $65 million.
There is a new basketball arena.. new training center and a 165 million dollar facilities expenditure underway. I'm not sure Purdue can match any of that.. and they were underpaying Painter by league standards.

The Academic Progess Rates the NCAA uses to measure how well universities graduate their student-athletes, has ranked Missouri highly ranked among BCS public institutions.

I don't think it is quite the step down you do.

I was thinking along the lines of better program on the court, not how nice the weight room is...

I hate Mizzou if you didn't know.
