  • stl high school all-star game-some light reading to take your mind off other things.

I went out tonight to a high school all-star game.. sadly with the snow many of the promised players were no shows. Among the no shows were D Stewart & R Abell.

I did get to see and talk with two players heading to SIU.. Treg Setty and Dantiel Daniels. When Setty signed I recall he was in the 6'5" range.. he is now 6'8" and says he is still growing. Although a little slight of build this kid has some game. He can shoot the 3 from way out.. handles the ball pretty well .. decent leaper.. and appeared willing to play D (as much as any kid is in these kind of games). Treg loves to talk and made a point to come up into the stands where I was sitting with some SIU fans.

Setty talked about Abell for a few minutes. He called him one of the top 5 players in Kentucky. He says he is very explosive and quick as a leaper with a great mid-range game.. not so much a 3 point shooter. I hold out hope a new coach can still convince him to come to BU. He also called him the nicest person he ever met.. doesn't curse.. very religious.

Dantiel Daniels could be a force in the valley similar to Randall Faulk. He is 6'6" and very muscular. His game is very much about mixing it up around the basket. He appears to be a good leaper and one of those kids with the desire to make things happen. He also came over and talked to us after the game. Both nice kids.

Max B. was at the game. I have to say he seemed disinterested (maybe making his announcement yesterday took the luster off playing in this game). Daniels out-muscled him several times.. and blew right past him once. Max did hit one 3 pointer..

There were several other impressive players at the game:
Kendall Anthony.. fun to watch.. 5'9" guard from TN heading to Richmond.. very good ball handler who can shoot the three.

Shaq Boga 5'10" guard from StL.. heading to UW Milwaukee.. very quick''

Cedric McAfee 6'2" from TN heading to Auburn.. appeared to be the best player on the court. He did a little of everything.. hit some threes.. had a couple of slams.. mades some nice passes.. blew past defenders. Good player!

Martez Harris 6'4" guard from Louisville going to Tennessee.. made some good moves to the basket.. launched some threes.. seemed to be doing a little cherry picking

Octavius Ellis 6'9" from TN going to Cincinnati.. big wingspan.. skinny.. probably a red shirt to add 20 pounds.. but the guy and fly.. showed some really good moves around the basket.

I was also hoping to see Chasson Randle (stanford).. Michael Henry (uofi).. Roosevelt Jones (butler) and Nnanna Egwu (uofi).. but they were all no shows as well.

Myself and 3 kids from ISUred were planning on going.....then Johnny Hill (ISU recruit) was not going to be there .......so they didn't want to go anymore...I really wanted to see Mycheal Henry and Remy bad....plus DS and Nanna.........glad I didn't drive down now.

Thanks...before I saw your thread -- I scoured a lot of message boards and tweets about the game and came up with this assessment which I posted elsewhere....
