I was hoping he stayed but new he would not. He already has an NBA body and has nothing to prove. He's a first round, probably lottery pick. There will be a few other leaving early. I bet Sullinger will also go even though he said he will stay. He may be the number one pick in the draft.

        and freshman JT Thomas...is leaving...
there are also two other freshmen leaving -- and just before the 2010-2011 season started SEVEN players left or were booted, including one Bradley was in the market for... - LINK
...that makes thirteen players (counting the loss of two seniors) leaving in the last 11 months!!! What the hey!!!

ISU has no interest in Iverson, but they did take Utah transfer Will Clyburn today. Clyburn is a 6'7" guard that scored 17 points and grabbed 8 boards per game for Utah this year. He will sit out next year and have on year to play. ISU has 6'11" freshman Jordan Railey, 6'9" freshman Calvin Godfrey, 6'8" redshirt freshman Royce White, 6'8" soph Anthony Booker, 6'7" junior Clyburn and 6'6" freshman Melvin Ejim so size is not a huge issue for ISU right now.

Iowa State is definitely getting some good players in transfer but is it good and will it help in the long term to take so many transfers...
Clyburn -- like Chris Allen and Jake Anderson will end up giving the Cyclones only one single season of eligibility.
It is very difficult for various reasons to build consistency with so many transfers...who by nature are maybe a bit more likely to not be so coachable -- as many come in disgruntled (eg - Booker) - and some, like Jake, are very well traveled - having been at many schools...
Clyburn makes eight D-I transfers they have but it'll be only seven next year when Jake is gone.

BTW -- here's some more news -- on the eve of the signing period -- Dayton's TOP two recruits back out of their committments and ask out of their letters of intent

Dayton's Brian Gregory is now at Georgia Tech and is defintiely trying to get both of them to follow him there...

Iowa State had three players on it's roster when Hoiberg took the job. Had he taken the traditional course of signing a bunch of spring leftovers last spring instead of taking the transfers, not only would we have sucked last year, but we would have had no experience this coming season with a ton of sophomores. Fred took the transfers because it gave us practice bodies last year, increased our talent and balanced our classes roster wise.

In college basketball, a lot of the success you have recruiting starts with success on the court. Fred knew he needed talent and top 100 kids are not knocking down the door to get into ISU right now. With that said, ISU did have three scholarship and one walk on freshman this year that got minutes. They will be joined by White in the sophomore class this year and we add a freshman in Tavon Sledge. So while we do have a lot of transfers, we will still have at least five underclassmen on scholarship this year so it isn't like we are not building for the future. We are actively chasing a ton of 2012 prep prospects and seem to be sitting well with several of them. I do not think that taking transfers will be the way Fred sustains the program, they are just how he is coshing to kick start it.

As per the coachability of some of these guys, I think it is EASIER to get the attention ot these players because they have already sat out a year redshirting before they ever set foot on the court and they know that this is their last chance to play D1 ball because transferring again is not an option usually. If you make a prep player mad, he might transfer. The risk of that happening to a transfer is much less.

Here is the latest list of D1 transfers from Jeff Goodman of FoxSports.com-

Notice one name on the list that some fans might not have expected to see- it is the 36th name on the list, just 3 names below Brandon Dunson (who is leaving Arizona State).

Makes you wonder if he knows:

                  a) MORE than we do and that he has decided to leave after all (leading to another PJS retraction?)

                  -or-

                  b) LESS than we do, and saw that there was a release ASKED for, but not granted a few weeks ago.

Lets see how this plays out...

At Georgia Tech -- as most have heard -- ex-BU Recruit Iman Shumpert was very distraught with the firing of his coach and hiring of the new guy -- he is likely to leave...
Shumpert actually did it in a fashion that has a lot of people upset and saying he was rude and arrogant..
in the middle of the press conference to introduce new head coach Brian Gregory.. Shumpert tweeted he was outta there...

Whatever, he's not on the transfer list anyway. Emotions can get the best out of anyone.

BTW does anyone have any statistics on kids transferring and broken down between coaching changes, Janking, hardship or any other variable for the last 20 so seasons. It just seems there are a ton more transfers then years past.

There are way more transfers the last couple years than there ever used to be. I have no statistics, but everyone recognizes this phenomenon.

Evan Gordon, after leaving Liberty, lands at Arizona State -- this will be a career buster -- he should have talked with Dodie's brother Brandon or Corey Hawkins...

also note that Chris Colvin committed to Arizona State!
