What top players or pro-caliber players is he responsible for recruiting? Most coaching bios list all the kids he's ever been associated who make it to the pros --
(recall the Ritchie McKay bio claiming credit for making obscure DG into an NBA player!)

I am not yet willing to doubt the claim he's a great recruiter...but before I accept it, please let's see some evidence, some names, etc...

But even in Jeter's bio, the only players it even mentions as kids he's handled or recruited are Ja'Rob McCallum (a 7ppg SG at UW-M), Adrian Tigert (career 9ppg scorer), Chris Hill (6ppg scorer).
So am I missing something...top recruiter, lead recruiter, lots of connections...?
if all this is true - then give me a name......who has he landed that anyone from Illinois has ever heard of?
In the same interval -- Jim Les recruited at least EIGHT kids who DID or who would have gotten to 1200 - 1600 career points at Bradley!
I can't find on recruit connected to Jeter who even came close.
(Cellus, POB, Ruff, JC, Sammy, Warren, TB, DSE)
(I dug a bunch to see if Jeter's name was ever associated with Alando Tucker (Lockport) but it was never mentioned in any recruiting article from that time.)

Shaka isn't coming to BU. VCU, right now, is a superior job. Smart is going BCS when he moves.

The top Butler assistant has never been a head coach at any level and has only been their associate HC for a year. Isn't that the argument against Howard? At least Howard is known as a great recruiter.

BU is a better job than Milwaukee, but that alone doesn't mean a coach would jump. It has to be a big enough step up, and I'm not certain it is.

I know we'd all like to think that BU has its pick of coaches, but it does not.

The coaches that have had success at the mid-major level, in comparable leagues, aren't leaving their situation for Bradley. They just aren't.

They don't need BU to elevate their career.

If you want a successful HC, you have to look at the bottom 1/3 or leagues that don't pay salaries like most MVC schools.

Jeter would be about as good a hire as we can hope for. I think he has some things going for him and could be successful at BU, but I don't know that he'd jump without a significant salary increase ($2-300,000)

I'm still prepared to be underwhelmed.

I see your viewpoint - However wouldn't we need to see what Jeter can do here before we make that decision? If he came in and won big, then I think we'd be hard pressed to say that. If he came in and muddled around the 4-5 game for 5 years, then I would be inclined to agree with you. It's about getting better - If we don't eventually get better then we did ourselves no good. Hiring a guy that won a league similar to the MVC, and won COY in that league I think is a legitimate move to get better. But, as always, the proof will be on the court.

It clearly did not work out for Wisconsin or Bradley for that matter, but I was told that he was the lead recruiter who landed DeArron Williams.(sp?) If so, there was certainly a lot of competition at the time to land Williams.

People won't want to hear it, but right now, the upper tier CAA jobs (VCU-GMU-ODU) are simply better than any Valley job, the Hofstra and Drexel jobs are probably better than any non-Creighton and WSU Valley job, and jobs like Madison, N'eastern, Delaware are probably even with the mid-level Valley jobs. IMO.

I'd probably say that WSU and CU are still better than any CAA gig, based on all factors (resources, arenas, etc.), but the point is well taken.

The CAA and MVC are pretty similar, outside of venues -- the MVC has better venues than any other mid-major and has many facilities on par with BCS schools.

again -- if Jeter is selected -- I will be a strong supporter and want him to keep the players we have and get the best recruits....but I have yet to see evidence he's getting anything better at UW-M than we get here...

Almost all his current players are fairly obscure Wisconsin kids...not saying they are bad players, just that they are fairly obscure --
he also has two transfers from Evansville, James Haarsma & Kaylon Wiliams...those were kids who didn't exactly tear the Valley up but were decent mid-major players...
Hi current best three players, and only double digit scorers, Hill, Boyle, Meier...were all 2-Star or completely UNRATED (zero stars) and in his FIVE years at UW-M he has never landed a single recruit that was rated above 2-Star by scout.com

he was a mid-major caliber kid if he could be kept in check -- why not give it a try -- BU has to try for some "hidden gems" like TB or NW...but for Wisky to go for him was really a losing proposition...

I am sorry but the bottom line is JL did not produce after the sweet sixteen season!! I do not think the CBI or the other no name tourney counts in any discussion...Our sweet sixteen year where did we finish in the regular season standings? We got hot the last 10 games and finished second in the tourney... Some people outside of BU think it was all a fluke!! I was a JL supporter but i know it is time to move on!!

Agreed completely... You can't knock one without the other. If anything JL was worse for going after him because his issues at wisky were known...

I think to find someone who will come to BU, it is going to be hard to find someone that will have a huge case that improvement will be imminent. The pressure is on Them to find that guy. If they don't, the people who knew Jim Les or wanted him to remain as coach will get even more frustrated. The new guy will have to win quick for those people.

Are you listening at all? I am simply saying the I do not believe Jeter is a step up from JL, theres quite a lot to back that up.It has nothing to do with not moving on. JL achieved a sweet sixteen and NIT with his own players. Jeter achieved an auto bid NIT and lost in the first round. That's not moving up IMO, sorry if you don't like it, but it has nothing to do with being stuck in the past. We have a baseline to compare against (JL) and this coach does not exceed the baseline, and we lost our best player (maybe more), our best recruit (maybe more), and the support of a lot of alums - we should be getting something that balances out those losses, and I don't see it. Like I said, under different circumstances this hire would look a lot better, but under the current ones, it wasn't worth it to me.

One thing in Jeter's defense on this, is that from what I have been told, the facilities aren't that great at UWM, attendance is around 3-4k mark at each game and he is recruiting against Wisconsin and Marquette!

Here are some of the things I wanted for the new coach.

Assistant at a BCS school at one time---check
                                Recruiting ties in midwest--check
Coach who graduates players-not sure of Jeter's record here but if he is hired-- I am sure that the Administration will demand this as a prerequisite which I am fine with.

I would be fine with this hire if we go this route.
