  • More Bradley rumors

For those who like to keep up with completely uninformed rumors, such as the Dane Fife interview rumor, here are a couple more-

Some guy who runs a site called HoopDirt.com claims to know some of the possible candidates for the Bradley job-

But then this same guy reported that Dane Fife "interviewed" for the Bradley job, which IMO is not true.

Here are his list of candidates for the open Florida Gulf Coast job-

JUst so I'm clear on Fife....and this is not some type of baiting question...

Did either BU or Fife deny he interviewed or just didn't confirm if he did?

so, if i read what you're saying, it may be not be true, but it may not be not true.

a lack confirmation does not equal a definitive no. it equals i'm not telling either way.

Why is the onus on me or anyone else to prove or state that something didn't happen, when there nothing to prove that it did? Why don't you ask the question, who ever said that there was an interview? As far as I know, nobody has ever confirmed that, including the people who should know.

As far as I know, only 1 person on this board ever said there was an interview. It may be the same source that Dave Reynolds thought was reliable when he reported it, and how did that turn out? I'd ask that poster how reliable his info is, or check his track record on inside BU info, or question his motives. Also, consider why the PJ Star retracted their story...

This blogger is doing nothing more than stating names he thinks would be "possible" candidates. Someone could have just as easily come to this board and put that list together in 3 minutes.

Yes, I checked out his site a bit more and it is quite good for following college basketball, but most of the reports come from what is reported in other sources. So it's no surprise to see the Fife rumor, since that is the way it was originally reported.

Fans should check out his site

Ok everyone...take this for what it's worth. It's an ESPN Insider article, so there's no sense in providing a link that non-Insiders can't use.

              Anyway, here's what it says...

              Bradley interviews a second candidate
              9:49
AM ETBradley Braves TopEmailCommentsShare6UPDATE: According to CoachingNewsOnline.com, Bradley recently interviewed Gonzaga assistant Ray Giacoletti for its men's basketball coaching vacancy. Giacoletti is a name we mentioned yesterday. He's from the area, has been a head coach before, and is currently serving as Mark Few's right-hand man in Spokane. He'd bring more experience than Dane Fife, the other candidate that has been interviewed so far, and in our minds could be a good fit.

One question would be recruiting; having been away from the Midwest for quite some time, would Giacoletti be able to successfully recruit the area? He'd likely have to surround himself with assistants that are well-connected around those parts.

              ---

Yesterday we pondered whether Pat Knight might make sense at Bradley. Then, last night reports surfaced that the Braves interviewed another former Indiana Hoosier, current Indiana-Purdue/Fort Wayne head coach Dane Fife.

Fife, 31, has compiled an 82-97 record in six seasons with IPFW and is currently the youngest head coach in Division I. When hired for the job, he was only 25.

Fife is not the only candidate for the Bradley job, however. The Peoria Journal Star reports that Gonzaga assistant Ray Giacoletti, an East Peoria native and former head coach at Utah and Eastern Washington, is also interested.

              ---

It's now been 10 days since Bradley decided to released Jim Les from his duties as the Braves' basketball coach, and yesterday Scott Powers of ESPNChicago.com detailed a comprehensive list of candidates that could make sense for the job.

It's another name that got our attention, though, that being former Texas Tech head coach Pat Knight. Now, despite the criticism he took in Lubbock, Knight took the high road on his way out of town and remained proud of his accomplishments while with the Red Raiders. Will that mindset keep Knight's sights set on a job in one of the bigger power conferences? Or perhaps one in the Mountain West? And could he land one of those jobs? It's hard to say.

But as Courtney Linehan of the Lubbock Avalanche-Journal tweeted on Tuesday, Knight could make sense at Bradley. "Random thought: Knight to Bradley would be a good fit. Midwest, mid-major, basketball school -- checks all his boxes. I'd love to see it."

It'd be a big splash for Bradley, which has only reached the NCAA tournament twice and had just two players drafted in the NBA (Anthony Parker and Patrick O'Bryant) since the days of the Hersey Hawkins-led 1988 team.

Caution- believe this rumor at your own risk. Note that Gonzaga played a game yesterday in the NCAA regional in Denver, Colorado. And I suspect Ray Giacoletti has been quite busy preparing his team for these NCAA games. When would he have had time to come to Peoria to interview?

I suspect this rumor has about the same validity as the suspect Dane Fife rumor, which I notice is also a headline on that site-

If true, that would make two candidates whom we interviewed that are not very impressive!

I would not mind Pat Knight...... he is a name...... he could keep our team together..... and I think the Knight name could sell recruits in the Midwest. My question is whether he could co-exist at BU with this administration..... I think his temperament and ego are very similar to Les'..... and we saw how that worked out.
