    Bradley 72 - Illini 68 Final

???It??™s awful hard,??™??™ said Illini freshman guard D.J. Richardson, the former Central High School guard who played prep school ball a few miles from here and fought back tears outside the locker room. ???It??™s a hometown thing. It??™s bragging rights.??™

Well, anyone who is hired here may or may not be able to lift Bradley to the next level, but I'm not sure Knight is the person, though he would not have to recruit Big 12 type players here.

        Recruiting???

Can I ask a question which may sound silly to some. Why are so many people making such a big deal about being able to recruit the Midwest and our area? When you hear where other recruits come from with other programs they are from all over the United States. Why would this be so different for Bradley?

Because the Midwest is full of talent, and you should at least be able to recruit in your own backyard.

Otherwise, there's more expended effort and resources required to recruit out of your region. Very tough I imagine to recruit nationally if your school is not a household name. BU though will at least have some name recognition from within our region. Local TV and radio will at least mention it. Why waste the free PR by not recruiting in the Midwest?

Get more local kids on the team and you probably also have more local fan support.

It is extremely hard to get a kid to come and play at a school they've never heard of...

We've talked about how some people in Chicago don't even know where Bradley is...and any of you who went to Auburn Hills when Bradley made it to the Sweet Sixteen were undoubtedly asked several times by other fans..
            "where is Bradley?"....

so since they don't know where Bradley is outside of the midwest -- then your best bet of getting in the door is with recruits from close by who at least have a chance of knowing about Bradley or possibly even being a fan of Bradley like Jeremy Crouch, Sam Maniscalco, Dyricus, Prosser, etc. were...

BTW -- speaking of Auburn Hills and BU's win over Kansas -- that got a mention this morning on an Illini chat...

"When Kansas lost to Bradley in Auburn Hills a few years back, I remember the crowd
turning to Bradley's side in the second half. That won't happen in Tulsa if KU's games
are tight today or Sunday. KU is everywhere in Tulsa."

Bill Self apparently was moaning about how unfair it was in Auburn Hills that the crowd mayhave been cheering for Bradley against Kansas -- but this year they play in Tulsa...

I'm in your camp! We just need a coach that can sell and then put BU on the map so the need to explain where BU is, would be the same as what school plays in Stockton, WA.

I suspect you mean Spokane WA.

But John Stockton did play there.

Yes I did but you did get my meaning and probably accentuated it.

This is exactly why we need a good coach that can also recruit the mid-west.

I wonder why no mention of Ernie Kent?

He wouldn't be high on my list, but he is from Rockford and had some success.

                        Hey -- I got a question...

Dave Reynolds just said Parker charges $50,000 fee for doing the coaching search...but Kyle Dierking on WMBD said the fee is $75,000...and almost every other site from any university doing a similar search says it is $75,000

Other schools that have gone public with the amounts they had to pay also say it is "$75,000 fee to engage the search firm"

The only references to anyone getting Parker engaged for $50,000 are over a year ago and older...

so......isn't $75,000 a lot of money compared to what it would cost just to ask or advertise for applicants, screen them and interview them and then save most of that $75K?
If you do a little research, you find that guys hired via Parker have NOT historically been any better than those hired by other means.

Dont you want a firm that has vast knowledge of how this process works this since the President and AD dont? 75k is nothing if it means we get the right guy for the job.

Same reason companies use consulting firms to make decisions - minimizes risk.

I agree that it a lot of money to pay for something that I consider to be part of an AD's job responsibility. I'm guessing the only real benefit that they bring to the table is their relationship with the national coaching network and their ability to gauge interest and build a list of potential and qualified candidates on a confidential basis. I'm sure a lot of candidates would rather not let their administration know that they are looking. Remember what BC did to their football coach when they found out he was looking?
