I am really hoping that the PJS got this wrong! We can and need to do much better than Dane Fife with our coaching hire.Bradley 72 - Illini 68 Final
???It??™s awful hard,??™??™ said Illini freshman guard D.J. Richardson, the former Central High School guard who played prep school ball a few miles from here and fought back tears outside the locker room. ???It??™s a hometown thing. It??™s bragging rights.??™

given it is the only local paper it's not cited as a reference very often at all...
sometimes Big Mike posts current stories for folks out of town who cannot get the paper - but as an actual reference for something factual -- it isn't linked to very often
BTW -- Braveman -- have you now changed media venues?? Was that you on TV the other nite?

It's your board DC...but lets' have one thread that bashes the Star and leave it as a sticky...then it's just on one thread instead of doing it for every article that some don't like.......
I don't bash this board or posters from here OTOB like some do because it's just silly in my opinion.....totally unproductive IMO
does anyone think BU didn't interview Fife?.....maybe he was looking for a job at Manual????We all want Bradley to win. If our methods and visions for that are different, then so be it. Don't ever attempt to tell me I am not a fan!???

yes-- I think there's a strong possiblity that BU didn't interview Fife...and it's based on a complete and total lack of any evidence that they did
plus Fife clearly had a completely separate and valid reason (recruiting) even if he was seen in Peoria!
if the only evidence you even have that he was interviewed is that ONE person said they saw him at Manual and the only source that says he was interviewed now says he is retracting that statement and has NO way to know if Fife was interviewed...
then I don't see why it is even a quesiton...why should anyone be compelled to PROVE he wasn't interviewed before we agree the newspaper got it horribly wrong and then compounded it with even a 2nd story on Fife referencing the first one!!
Interestingly -- the first PJ Star article that said he was interviewed is now removed from their web site, and the 2nd one has been altered to say ..
"Via an e-mail to WANE-TV in Fort Wayne, Fife neither confirmed nor denied
a Journal Star website report earlier Wednesday that he was interviewing for
the Bradley job."
instead of what that story said originally that he HAD BEEN interviewed

I can't stand the PJstar...they never have anything good (and now anything truthful) to say about BU.
Maybe JL hasn't even really been canned.
Sort of off topic - was just talking to a buddy of mine (that doesn't post here) said that when he was walking through the parking deck at one of Peoria's fine downtown hotels last week (Wednesday) he saw a gentleman getting out of his car in a black track suit with a big UNC Tarheels logo on the chest. He had on glasses, a hat, and was carrying a clipboard. He looked very much like a coach.
So this buddy of mine, goes out to the UNC website and swares that it was this guy: http://tarheelblue.cstv.com/sports/m...e_jerod00.html
Could have been in town for the sectional games or I suppose...an interview. Didn't Cross say he was going to interview folks as early as last Wednesday.

It appears there is an article at IndianasNewsCenter.com that quotes the IPFW AD saying Fife was in Peoria, but the only thing about an interview is based on the story from the PJ Star, which they have now backed off of.
Could Fife have just been in Peoria for a recruiting visit? Or maybe to turn in an application for the job opening? I still do not see anything confirming he was here on the invitation of Bradley or that he interviewed with anyone at Bradley. It seems the PJ Star have their doubts as well.

read the post, nobody from IPFW, BU, nor Fife himself has confirmed a meeting or interview..
it is possible it did happen and it's possible Elvis was in Peoria -- but there simply isn't any evidence yet...we might be wise until there is...

What am I missing -- the linked article posted a few posts up (not pjs) says:
IPFW Athletic Director Tommy Bell confirmed to Indiana's Newscenter that Fife had interviewed at Bradley.
That does not seem to be citing the frequently-jumping-the-gun-for-fear-of-dying-out PJS, right?
If it wasn't for that comment, I'd hope we're not assuming every coach in Peoria for recruiting (seen at the HS!) is goin to pop up here as a candidate. Will get old-- fast!

jeffsu -- that line is a MISQUOTE from another article that cited the erroneous and since-retracted PJ Star story as their ONLY source..
again -- fife MAYBE did interview but for now we simply cannot say he did as we DO NOT have any evidence of such
