[QUOTE=thefish7;222348]If you hire a guy like that, you step out of the way.

Honestly, I didn't see this, was just wondering if someone else did...

I figure there's next to zero chance he coaches at BU, but I'd welcome him if he did... And apparently Kaplan at least made the idea a possibility to him.

You would "welcome him if he did?" It doesn't matter to you that he has not been a winner for years? It doesn't matter to you that he abuses his players (and his fans). It doesn't matter to you that he was never known as a particularly good recruiter. It doesn't matter to you that the "butts in the seats" would dwindle as the losses continued? I just don't get it. As Da Coach said, his days are long gone as a productive coach.Pleaseeeee......??

I am one who does not like Bob Knight -- I have little respect for his bullying and obnoxious, in your face ways...
so...I will answer your question B4L -- if he were hired I would do my very best to support him unconditionally -- as I always have and always will with every coach, assistant, player, and Athletic Department personnel I have ever seen or known at Bradley.
And I'll bet Mr. Knight would be very happy with that although I can guarantee our most recent coach saw and heard some comments by so-called fans that were not well accepted...
...so if fans not liking, supporting, or tolerating their coach is an issue or concern for you...I can PM you plenty of links to current posters who appear to have violated your standards, but I am definitely not one of them.
Again -- until those on the Hilltop tell me I am not being a good fan, then I could care less what anyone else thinks

some have equated fans who are upset at Jim Les' firing as = to NOT supporting certain administrative personnel who fired him, thus not being a good fan.

I'm not interested in Knight, but it would be interesting I suppose.

If it were a serious consideration, I think the only way you'd do it is if you have him groom a successor from the start. Get some young assistant and make him the heir to the throne so to speak.

Like Bill Parcells with the Dolphins or Pat Riley for the Heat.

I'd take him in a second. He would put us back on the map

So anyway yes, I saw it a couple days ago. I got the feeling Kaplan spit out the only name he could remember that had an opening. I always thought Knight was a good coach, but I am not sure he is going to put in the necessary work nowadays to succeed. I also think he would be a very bad fit with our President. It would be entertaining though.Anyway I think there is no chance, and I am not in favor of it happening.

A hire like Knight would only work (I'm saying this for every school, not just BU) is if a successor plan is put into place. He wouldn't coach much longer.

Otherwise, there would be great short-term gain but no long-term plan, which would be my overriding concern.

Right so some combination of Knight/Fife would be a way to achieve that? Just sayin'...

Hey -- Willie Mays is still alive and not playing for anyone -- should the Cubs sign him...after all he has more hits and homers than the guy who the Cubs have currently!
Bad comparison T. No one is talking about Bob K playing, as Willie would be doing. Bob K would be ok with me.

I'm with you on this one T! I'm pretty positive it will not happen. The baggage is way too much but it would play in Peoria and as one poster said it would put BU on the map, good or bad!
