This lawsuit is being pursued by non-qualifiers who were then forced to go to junior college to become eligible then to go to Division I schools and be on scholarship...
They claim the NCAA determination of who is "qualified" and who is a "non-qualifer" is arbitrary and unfair...
and disqualifies certain kids from being eligible to go straight from high school to D-I and play and be on scholarship..
But note this...
"Many student-athletes rely on athletic-based financial aid to get a college
education, including "a disproportionate number ... [who] are from
communities of color or who grew up in an at-risk environment.."
In the end we actually see that the real motivation for this (read at the bottom of that link) is that some people think that by
requiring a kid to get decent grades, you are a racist and since a disproportionate number of kids who are non-qualifiers are minorities...
It isn't just enough for them to claim NCAA is racist -- and to stop this policy -- they, of course, want some money paid to them as a settlement!!
Of course they don't pint out that in the big time sports such as football & basketball -- a disproportionate percentage of the kids who do play, who do succeed, and who do move on the professional sports are also minorities....
is this lawsuit gonna correct that "imbalance"?
