      lefty -- here's my take...
whoever does the hire - -- be it a consulting firm, an AD, or Prez...obviously they want a flawless candidate but one with very few flaws would still be included...
If you go with a guy who was JUST fired..then you had better do your research..and find out what's up..
as I think it would be a recipe for disaster to immediately hire a guy who was just fired somewhere else...

Can you think of anyone who had success who was JUST hired immediately after being fired...?
This would not count Gillispie, Tim Floyd, Larry Eustachy -- all those guys had layoffs and worked on various aspects of their resumes...

I can't think of even ONE guy who was fired, then immed. hired and had good success. Maybe Steve Alford & Tubby come closest, yet still they were never actually fired...and they also began to lose as soon as their predecessor's players graduated...

I'm not disagreeing with you....I would agree on the research part too...but it also seems to me a head coach that has had success somewhere else could be better than an asst. too. Sometimes it is about the fit.
I'm too lazy to look it up but wasn't Amaker fired? He's doing fine at Harvard. Most of the guys fired seem to have money coming from a buyouts or contracts so I guess they don't mind stepping back for a bit either and I don't blame them.

Guys from ESPN think he's gonna be great...

Oklahoma has fired head basketball coach Jeff Capel after five seasons with the Sooners.

A Big 12 Coach is a Big 12 Coach. That's the closest we're going to get to a major coach. In my opinion, this is one of the better candidates out there for hire right now. I wouldn't bother about why he was fired, you only get cases like the Football coach at USC (formerly Tennessee) once in a great while.
... At the end, of the storm, there's a golden sky. And the sweet silver song of the lark. Walk on, through the wind, walk on, through the rain, though your dreams be tossed, and blown. Walk on, Walk on with hope in your hearts, and you'll never walk alone!
I'm behind you 100% Bradley Braves, You'll Never Walk Alone! BEAT STATE!

Ehhh, who knows. He didn't get the job done in Oklahoma, but maybe he would be a good mid-major coach, at least for now.

He coached VCU before going to Oklahoma and won 79 games in 4 years. I think he has proven himself on the mid major level and think he would be a great fit for BU.

We'll see, hopefully soon. I would pursue this former Major coach if I were the BU admin. Hopefully we'll retain most of our players!

Didn't he inherit that VCU team and left before proving he could win with his recruits?

                      T. I agree with you 100%. I don't know what they are thinking but our board members have shown early interest in Pat Knight, etc, I remember clearly how down Kentucky was on Gillespie when they let him go. He had player's leave the program, he could not or would not communicate with the fan base, he poorly represented the school, etc, etc, etc. Many of our board members are not doing their homework.

Gillispie? He's not a candidate is he? If he's done drinking and would consider BU, I'd take a very long look at him.

Thank goodness., no...But, Check some of the posts that go on about how good Gillespie is. He has shown interest in several coaching jobs since leaving Kentucky...I wonder why no one has hired him?

I would think it's the history of DUIs.
