Any updates on Matt Roth? Is he still planning on graduating and playing somewhere else next year? He would have 2 years of eligibility, correct? BU sure could use a shooter...

the prevailing opinion at IU seems to be that he will stay at IU and do grad school there...but many think he is the guy whose scholarship will be Creaned since Indiana is way oversigned and still recruiting for more kids as we speak...Comment

of course....even kid who go from D-III to D-I still have to sit out a year ---
anyone transferring in to a D-I school for basketball or football must sit out one year with three exceptions...
-juco kids who either have an associates degree or who were eligible and qualified out of high school can transfer to D-I and then are immediately eligible
-transfers who show hardship can get a "hardship waiver"...
Jake Kelly got this when he left Iowa and went to Indiana State -- you have to show that some hardship requires you move or be closer to home..and it has top be approved on a case by case basis by NCAA...it is rare, but Tyler smith also got one a few years ago -- leaving Iowa State and going to Tennessee...
-the grad school waiver -- students who have got their degree already can transfer and do graduate school work elsewhere if they need to transfer to pursue the courses they need, and they can also be rules immediately eligible. Sammy took advantage of this..as did Greg Paulus who went from Duke to Syracuse then played football.
I know of no other way any transfer INTO a D-I is immediately eligible -- anyone else know of any?
these transfer rules apply to walk-ons as well as scholarship players, however -- in some non-revenue sports the transfer penalty is waivedComment

if they go to NAIA, D-II, or D-III there's no penalty -- but if they transfer into D-I they sit out a year --
again, only jucos, hardships waivers, and grad school waivers...
...although if a school drops out of D-I or discontinues their program in the sport you were under scholarship then you can also transfer without penalty -- but that would be outside your control.
This happened when new Orleans dropped back to D-III and when UNI dropped their baseball program.
BTW -- as I said above -- there is one extra and addition route you can transfer BUT only if you are playing some other sport besides basketball, football, and ice hockey..
here it is...but it does NOT aplpy to D-I basketball or football...

I talked to someone very close to Matt last night and he is not going anywhere. He has a girlfriend there who plays volleyball and he's very happy there, despite his lack of playing time.____________________

I agree with all that -- but -- there's one more thing....the coach keeps recruiting and is already oversigned by two for next year....and he's hot on trying to land Jamari Traylor -- yet another guy who'll come in next year and need four years of scholarship -- so someone is gonna go - not just have their scholarship taken, but lose their playing time as well even if they walk on......and even if they "are very happy there"...Comment
