I'm very encouraged with this list too. It seems like they are going after high major type teams in their search. That said though, let's hope this is not a smoke screen and they end up hiring some no-name from a mediocre low-major type of program!

Seen this also and had to wonder if it was the start of the PJS retracting their story they had earlier in the day about SM asking for his release. Not saying he still won't but hasn't happened yet contrary to what was reported.

Bradley has intense, loyal fans...and everyone knows BU's fans follow their team even on the road moreso than MOST teams
BU is nearing completion of a campaign that will raise over $100 million for the upgrade of facilities..only about 40-50 schools in the country could compete with that
and BU's fans are the best...we all know that and no argument is even needed....so unless a coach has a top BCS offer, yes, he'd want to come to Bradley...why not......?
ps-- barely a dozen non-BCS schools pay as well as BU for their head coach...and past BU coaches and assistants have gone on to numerous other head coaching positions, even the NBA

Good points, all. I can only hope that the process lands Bradley the very best possible coach.

Alford rubs me the wrong way more than any one I can think of in coaching. I also don't think he is that great of a coach(Alford).

I like that list, but I would hope there are some other names not on the list.

By the way people said Lusk would probably be lined up for SIU, so if we want him that blockade is gone.
You cannot choose a new coach based on his son being a good player because look at Detroit this season with McCallums son playing for them, choose the coach because of his coaching and not because his son is a great player.

I'm happy to see Lusk and Howard on the list...both would be great hires. Craig Neal as a candidate nauseates me. Why do former, failed Iowa coaches keep coming up?!? I also have trouble thinking of an assistant coach at the mid-major level (Neal/Graves) being our next head coach. It seems to me that an assistant at that level would first need to go to a low D1 or good D2 program to prove themselves first. The exception would be a coach who was already an assistant the program (ie Stevens replacing Lickliter at Butler).

I could be way off base though...are there any recent examples of a mid-major assistant jumping to a HC spot at another mid-major??

IMO, Lusk would be the type of "statement hire" that I am looking for!

                        I really hope this happens!

You have to be joking, Ind.St. did better without him, was a blessing in disguise that he left for Oregon because he must have believed he could not win nor did when at Ind. St., no thanks.

No. I'm not joking. Kevin McKenna did jump from an assistant job at Creighton to a head job at Indiana State.

The original question was "are there any recent examples of a mid-major assistant jumping to a HC spot at another mid-major?"

He did not ask if the jump was successful.

Great reasons why BU should be able to land a top notch coach, my favorites in order:
                              Lusk
                              Gard
                              Montgomery
                              Mueller
                              Miller
Terry is an interesting candidate but I still believe you need to have mid-western ties .
Graves is also interesting but I would rather have someone from a larger school.

Your list is very similar to mine, although Amaker and the Princeton coach would be high on mine also. I don't think Amaker is realistic though. I also wouldn't mind Licklighter, but he would be lower on my list.

I would maybe put Terry right behind Lusk,Gard, and Montgomery.
