I have heard BU players in the past say that JL created a "family environment" around the basketball program for his guys. One of the criteria mentioned by Cello in an interview after JL's firing was that he hopes the new coach will understand that guys like he & Tony Bennett came from urban backgrounds and will make the b-ball team a family environment for the players like JL has done.
With that in mind in conjunction with the latest on SM, it would seem that the allegiance on the BU team was to JL as much as it was to BU. It makes sense considering BU has always had a solid basketball history, but really could not be called a priority b-ball destination like some other Universities with similar histories.
I was thinkng that should this hiring process bog down or if they hire the wrong type of coach for the job that there could be a mass exodus this summer. You wonder if JG & Dr. C took any of this into consideration when they decided not to give JL at least one more year.
