Sam absolutely does not want to leave....and only a mountain of extremely undesirable circumstances could every force him or his family to even consider it....

so to say "nothing else" ..is wrong as there is not only something and not 'nothing'...there's a mountain of something...

I would disagree. Unless BU says he can't come back, then it is his choice.

like i said before, I would rather go to the sweet 16 and never finsh in the top 3 then finish in the top 3 in the valley and have no runs in the tournament. However I much rather had a chance to win the valley almost every year and make the tournament 2 or 3 times in that time spand......1 tournament run and 0 chances to win the valley, can we be UNI, creighton or witchita please??

That's what I am getting at here. People act like you can't have both.

It is possible to compete year in and year out. You do that enough and you will make your occasional deep tourney runs.

Sam is only taking a few hours this semester to totally complete his degree...
he then wants to continue through the summer and into next fall with a graduate program ..
He is currently in Sports Communication...

the sports communication program at BU is new, undergraduate only and does NOT have the graduate courses Sam has requested...
so BU has said....
"he can't"..thus his academic advisor says go elsewhere...no brainer

Illinois does have sports broadcasting, sports media, and sports journalism graduate plans...duh.....

I kind of did, since our last four doesn't include a Sweet 16. I'm still not sure what was so hard to understand about my initial post. Someone said they want us to consistently "contend" and finish top 3. I would rather make noise in the NCAA tournament. Therefore, I would rather have our last six than their last four. I really didn't think it was that complicated.

You would rather do that even if the "noise" is only once every 15 years?

Again, you cant compare a 6 year period to a four year period, it just doesnt work. Like someone asked you, compare their last 4 years to our last 4 years, and they have had more success. And how do you expect to make noise in the NCAA tournament when you are finishing in the bottom half of the league every year? I dont think the selection committee is going to be looking at a middle-bottom of the pack Missouri Valley team to get an at large berth.

Ok, I completely understand this point. The next logical progression would be then, IF JL was not fired would SM still be leaving for somewhere else? Prior to JL's firing, if there had been a poll taken, to a man on this board I bet everyone would have SM coming back. Soooo, I guess that begs the question, how was JL going to pull this off?

Don't get me wrong, SM can do what he wants and will stay or go whether BU fans support the decision or not, it just takes us back to the old is it a "reason" or an "excuse" for his leaving.

Ok.....I would rather have our last six years over their last six years, even though they finished top 3 in half those years. That might not work either, since I've included our Sweet 16 appearance. I'm also positive we have not finished in the bottom half of the league every year.

If SM goes somewhere else that will really hurt. It would be painful to see him in any other uniform, but I will be cheering for SM wherever he plays-I just hope it is here.

He is a great player with a lot of heart and my sense (with no personal knowledge) is that he feels betrayed that the University tossed aside his coach, his mentor, a major part of the reason he came here. If they aren't going to be loyal to him why should he be loyal to them ? If that is how he feels I can understand it but I would urge him to take some time to consider his options and what he really wants to do. There may be time pressures but be careful about making a big decision when you are emotional. Also understand how much you are appreciated by the fans in Peoria. You may have an issue with the decision made by a few individuals but don't let that color you feelings to your teammates, the University and the fans.

Whatever Sam decides I support him, but I do hope he stays.

when coaching changes take place, lots of kids decide to go elsewhere and lots of coaches actually "run kids off" if they want to recruit someone else...
This is a known fact and that's even given all those kids have to sit out when they transfer...

If there were NO transfer penalty -- then I guarantee just about all kids in that setting would leave and transfer...and in Sam's situation, there is NO penalty - -in other words...it's a benefit he has earned by working hard and not only getting great grades but also graduating well on time.
