Well agree to disagree because I've heard this even while still at Bradley and I remember vaguely a conversation happening about how JL got paid less than glasser...and i'm sticking with it and fully believe it. It's a private university and it's not as outlandish as some would think....now if we were a BCS or even a public school then it's a different story

How about a base of 500,00 with extra money for getting in the NCAA because Bradley would get money from the NCAA for being in the tour.

So, just to see if I have this correct....

She fires Coach Les, and has to hire someone at a higher salary than her, and as a result has to give herself a raise to make more than the head basketball coach.

So, as a result of the decision to fire coach Les, she will need to make more money.

Sounds a little bit conspiratorial, but is in factually incorrect?

I saw an ESPN article from 2009 showing Saban's base salary at Alabama was only about $250,000 (+millions in other forms of compensation). Their *5 and Pres were closer to $500,000..

I think that is the case with SIU with( others picking up major portions) of CL's contract to retain him at a State School.....

I would think there are alot of D1 basketball coaches making more than the Pres of the university. I would be shocked if the pres at Mich St made more than Izzo..same for some ACC schools. If Im correct...I think Dana Altman was making well over 1 mill before he bolted?? It really shouldnt be much of a shock for schools to be this way. Mens basketball is big money. I dont think I have ever heard a large number of would be college students say " I cant wait to get to college at so and so....they have great president!"

You would be surprised how much some universities pay their presidents. Some make over $1 million bucks a year, and are worth every penny if they bring in loads of donations. Even some small schools are up there with the highest paying presidents. It is like any CEO, they are worth whatever you have to pay them when they are successful at raising funds.

Does anyone remember John Brazil? He was Bradley's president from 1992-1998. He left to take the presidents job at tiny Trinity University in San Antonio Texas. He got a big raise with his move there, and when he retired in 2009, he made almost $3 million his last year!
Here is an article about Brazil, and other college presidents who make millions.

Kind of interesting to note that in the Sanantonio.com article, 30 private college Presidents made $1,000,000 or more, while in this 2005 article, only 5 Presidents earned more than $1,000,000 per year.

Im not surprised at all, Im just saying its not a stretch for the coach to make more than the president. Dana is really sticking in my mind for some reason.

All I know is that we better make a great higher or someones salary from BU may become a non-topic. I'd have to believe that the right higher should be looked as an investment because if they are looking for a bargain basement deal then we are in trouble.

I have a feeling they are gonna look for the bargain and everyone here is gonna be pissed.

If we look for a bargain I know I will be really upset. We need to be ready to pay someone significantly more than we paid Jim.

I think Jim gave us a "home town discount" and if we don't go with significant increase I don't see how we are going to make a "significant upgrade"(ok-I admit I am going to be skeptical in most instances at this point). Anything other than a significant upgrade is not worth the potential player defections and the pain of running off a "home town legend".

So, President Glaser go impress me and make me wrong. The "right" move would be for the pres to go to the Board of Trustees and have them ammend the bylaws because she realizes the importance of this hire should not be constrained by her salary and she needs to eliminate any sense of a conflict of interest (she did not fire Jim to pressure the board into paying her more).

As I have said before character is defined by doing the right thing even if it is "inconvenient".

                                Lets see......
