With a good quality coach demanding $700,000 or more per year, is BU really gonna pay the new coach that much given the fact we just gave Les a boatload of cash to leave? Or are they going to try to find a coach in the $400,000 range where Les was? Just curious what everyone thinks.

Coach first, money second.
No, I am not naive enough to think that money will not be a consideration, but I want them worrying about the quality of the candidate...not the cash. When the people fear their government, there is tyranny; when the government fears the people, there is liberty.

Well i asked this in another thread and DC answered it...the coach cannot be paid more than the president. I have no idea how much the prez gets paid but I can't think it's more than 500K a year. Therefore, to pony up 500K for a new coach would also mean paying the president more....not going to happen. This is purely a hunch and i could be way off base but I don't see BU going over 400K and even that might be a stretch by 50-100k per year

Well all I know is that i've had two ppl tell me that it was correct....one was DC in another thread and another was a PM that just happened not 2 minutes ago. I've heard this a number of times over the years and it seems to be true considering how JL was paid less than the prez. It's a university by-law the president has to be the highest paid employee. And I agree plenty of other universities have their big sport coaches as the highest paid, but not here....

Well fine, then I guess I give her a quarter more than what the coach is paid and call it a day OR I get the board to change the by-laws which can be revisioned after the fact...this can and probably should be done...
I mean I get the concept, but it's not a very good one...
Imagine if this were Texas and we had a football program...

edit: yes it was...in the journal star...prez at 500k and JL at 440K...doesn't that ring a bell? I'm pretty sure there was a minor discussion about it on this board..

EDIT: Youre right. I found it.
This highlights that a coach can make more than JG, but will not... (at this point in time JL DID) Only ego's limit the salaries...

Jim Les' current salary was due to a contract negotiation that took place and was signed into effect BEFORE Dr. Glasser ever got here. So his salary was and is exempt from the requirement stated....and thus I don't believe Dr. G is making $500,000K..
You can look it up but very few university presidents - even the ones at MAJOR universities that would be paying way more than Bradley pays...are not at $500K...
I have read Dr. Glasser's salary is closer to $400K ($408K according to this)
or base salary of $396K according to this - with retirement, benefits, and perks pushing it up higher..
