  • To the Bradley players and recruits

First let me say that I understand the current situation you find yourself in is a difficult one as you try and figure out what is best for you going forward. Your loyalty to Jim is understandable and should be expected. Jim was your Coach and trusted advisor, he pushed you to be successful in the class room as well. For the 4 recruits that had committed to Bradley, I know the Coach is a big part of that and I am sure you are struggling with what to do next. The easy answer is to give up on BU and ask out of your ride to BU. I am sure some of you have had Coaches pull you aside after you committed to BU and told you that you could do better.

College is all about preparing you for life and there is a lesson to be learned here. First from my experience in Corp. America, its clear you can not pick your boss. There are times I tried that and in most cases they had moved on within the first 6 months after I (picked them). When this happens you have a couple of options available to you. Stay and hope for the best remembering you moved to this job for other reasons than just your boss. You moved for the experience and the possibility of bigger and better things down the road. Leave the company and hope for the best. This is usually a very risky option as you have no clue what your future holds and the grass is not always greener on the other side of the fence. In my experience 90% of the folks that go this route wish they never had.

For our current players and recruits that need to make a decision about there future. Take some time, this is something you dont want to do in a hurry. Give it some time and dont make a rash decision. Listen to people you trust the most and have a track record of giving you advise based on whats best for you, not them. Remember why you picked Bradley to begin with and ask yourself if they still hold true. Ask yourself what you want to be as a person 10 years from now, what do you want to stand for. Does the current school help you get there or not. Most importantly ask and do what is best for YOU, not just short term but long term.

As a fan I want all current players to stay. I can't imagine not getting a chance to see SM in a BU uniform again. TB is a guy that I have looked forward to seeing as he continues to develop, I think he could play some day in the NBA. Remy could be the best recruit BU has had in some time and I would love to see him in a BU uniform. I remember him saying he wanted to be a big fish in a small pond.

I could go on and on but the bottom line is this. What BU fans want means nothing to the current players and recruits. What you need to figure out is whats best for you and what will be best for you 10 years from now. Any BU fan that gets it will support you no matter what decision you make and will pull for you to become a solid and contributing adult. Listen to people you trust and give it some time. If you do these two things you have a better chance than not to make the right choice.

Good luck, I will be pulling for you!!!!

      Nicely stated Mexico!

I would also love for all current players to stay and hope that the recruits honor their commitments. But I also understand the difficult decision that is in front of all of them.

      Hoping for the best!

Brave4life, I don't want to mislead anyone. I am not a BU grad as much as I would love to be. I did not have the opportunity to go to college (I was poor) although I have paid for 15 years of college for my three Daughters. I am a life long Bradley fan that has been very fortunate to make it to a VP position in a fortune 100 company without a degree. Without a degree you have to be street smart to navigate the corp world and get to this level. Just passing on some life experiences to the Bradley players and recruits. I would have given anything to go to BU but it is what it is. My wife (she was poor as well) and I made a commitment to do whatever it took to make sure our kids had a chance to go to college and I am proud to say they have all graduated and amazing, contributing adults. My wife and I's biggest achievement in life.

Absolutely. I think we all need to realize that nothing involved in this decision and future path of Bradley is easy.

It wasn't easy for the administration.

It hasn't been easy for Jim Les and his family.

It isn't easy on the players, current or recruited.

It hasn't been easy on the alums or fans.

This is just the start of a long road back. Today is step one of that long road. No one knows if this journey will be successful because every hiring, in any field, is a gamble to some degree.

I wish everyone involved good luck.

Excellent posts and a much needed break from all the hearsay of mass defections being a done deal.

I really do hope the players think about the big picture, why they came to BU, all the things they love and enjoy about the school/campus and most importantly what their degree will mean to them in a few short years.

I hope the current players all band together and vow to finish what they started and that they call the recruits and convince them to do the same. This is a painful and ultimately valuable real world lesson for them to learn.

TB quoted this on his facebook status this morning. So positive posts like this make a difference(even if its a small difference) because the players do read them.

I'm hoping that everyone returns, especially TB and Sammy...those two are hard to replace. My other top priority would be locking in the Remy/DS combo that could prove to be deadly. I think Sean would be great to have to but judging from Coach Corn's post...he will talk him out of his commitment. Nate Wells could be a project but you CAN'T teach size.

                Enough of my rambling...

What's done is done, lets get at it BU.

Why are players reading message boards? They should be more disciplined than that. They should not care what people are thinking or saying about them or the team as long as they personally know they are doing the best they can in the classroom and on the court.

As I read this initial post, I first wondered why it was addressed to players, then to see that TB and probably others actually get on here and read what people are saying really concerns me.

So.....since it's now apparent that players are reading these, here's my advice to you. DON'T READ THEM. Worry about much more important things.

I have heard JG met with the players last night and tried to convince them to stay. I think it will be a while to know if it made any difference.

And though I agree that players should not read message boards, they do. We have even had past players post occasionally.

They are high school kids. You can pretty much figure if Google can retrieve it, they'll read it. It's just how it is. People shouldn't freak out when players ask for their release, it's going to happen. It happens in nearly every transition. You just fill the gaps as best as you can and go forward with hope for the future because the coaching situation has been fixed.

I know we have butted heads but I know you may be the person to ask this question...

If an assistant is sticking around like widely speculated, wouldnt it be a better choice to have that assistant talk to the players?

I mean I know some players really like JG and some probably don't but would t it just be a much better move to have a guy who was with them every day have that task?

-that it is ridiculous for players to read or pay attention to anything anyone says on a message board...
-then you go ahead and post some advice for them on a message board...
LOL - Also this is 2011 and this generation of students rely heavily on social media. That is just a reality like it or not!

If you are asking me, I don't know. I don't know if any assistants are staying, but if one is, it is not likely to be the one most people think it is.
I am sure the players all had questions they wanted answered, and JG is the one best to do that.
