Lickliter is a very good man and a good coach -- I could be quite happy if he were my coach...

Don't get your hopes up for an infusion of talent by hiring Jerrance.

He could end up as a very good coach, but right now, he isn't ready for an MVC job.

Top candidates from big time schools have to be pretty careful where they go....
or else they may "shoot their wad" going to a place that they have a hard time winning then their stock goes way, way down....
Dan Monson & Tubby both came away wealthy but hurt their stock severely going to Minny -- and it's not like they weren't warned...
Even Brian Gregory has seen his tock slip a bit at Dayton -- with incredible recruiting classes and still he can't above the middle of the A-10...
This season when they were pegged to be right up there with Xavier & Temple and got mentions for Top 25 -- they finished only 7-9 in a weak A-10 this season, and Gregory has come under some fire for such poor performance.
Then you gotta recall Billy Gillispie....again -- he came away rich but hurt his stock severely trying to win at Kentucky.
Then there's Jank, Crean, Lickliter at Iowa, Alford at Iowa, Wainwright, etc...
all took a perceived step UP the ladder and hurt or burned their resume trying to build a program but have failed.....
Just sayin'......but a whole lot of hot named guys are looking at Bradley as a very hard place to win....
Even one of the single hottest commodities for a decade, Johnny Dawkins, waited and waited at Duke for the perceived "right opportunity"...
then he has taken Stanford from prominence and 20 wins to mediocrity again....
This year's 15-15 (as well as last year's 14-18 ) and 7-11 in the very weak Pac-10 - have also hurt his resume....
as some relief to those "wounds" he's at least getting big time pay in the millions...
this kind of bad jump if it were to a midmajor where the pay wouldn't soothe the wounds would be career harry karey

How about the coach that wins the class 4A state title, let that be his reward You know it's going to be a Chicago coach or a Chicago Suburban coach, probably from the western suburbs, that wins it all That coach would come in with great recruiting contacts and we start getting good players from Chicago and the CMA like Coach Versace did
not relevant to thread but here's the 4A bracket:

The most important thing is not to win the press conference introducing the coach -- it's to get the right coach.
Winning games always trumps winning the press conference.
If you can do both, great, but it's not necessary.
I think BU will attraced/already has attracted a lot of good candidates.
I just hope the "process" doesn't bungle the opportunity to land one.

I think he'll wait 'til a BCS offer comes along...and here's why........
1) Tom Izzo makes more than $3 mil per year and just turned down $6 mil to coach the Cavaliers, and it is rumored that his top assistants already make way, way more than BU would pay for the next head coach.
2) if he took at mid-major job - and a step down in salary - just to get a start-up shot at a head coaching position, and did poorly (check Tim Jankovich), then his shot at going back to a BCS spot is toast.
3) Just last year, when Tod Kowalczyk bolted from UW-GB and took $280,000 per year at Toledo -- Green Bay went after Montgomery...
(they also tried to woo Greg Gard) ...and both didn't even go for an interview...
At that time...it was also reported that Gard also turned down the Toledo job because he was already making more (recall that Kowalczyk got $280K) than Toledo was offering!
So I have to think if we want an assistant from a TOP BCS program, we are not going to get anyone's top assistant who's already getting $250K or more..
In the end -- it didn't hurt UW-GB to ask, but you can see who they settled for --
Brian Wardle -- the youngest head coach in D-I basketball -- a guy who was just promoted from his Green Bay assistant spot of 5 years.
He was the guy willing to take the amount offered by UW-GB...
Montgomery
Lusk
Gard
Mueller
Amaker may not be as good a fit as these 4 guys because these 4 have great midwest ties that will be very important in recruiting and they are learning from some of the best coaches in the country.

The number of high school coaches hired at midmajors or above that ever had any success can be counted on one hand.
And knowing JG and MC a bit, I can say with fairly high certainty it ain't gonna happen here.
I expect a quality hire that will be someone few could question. Whether he is successful here will remain to be seen.
