I actually said today that if they hire the wrong guy they might get their wish of playing games @ the new arena......:

      OK...

Someone want to take a stab at this on who fits his description?

I am thinking Butler, Xavier, Milwaukee, Murray State just for the few Midwest schools and either their assistants or heads in case of MIL and MSU.

Wessler hit the nail on the head with his first few paragraphs. He should have stopped there. As I said the light needs to shine very bright on The Prez and remain there. I hope they do this the right way and look at the new coach as an investment. I also hope they find someone who has done it before and is a master at taking programs to the next level. I'm not to keen on finding a person that may be the next so or so. We need to find someone who has a track record and I really do not care if they are using us as a stepping stone. Butler and Gonzaga have run through a few coaches lately without it diminishing their programs. This is just my preference right now. Assistance are too much of a risk for BU right now, unless they come form one of the top programs.

Yes, KW "hit the nail on the head" in this column. But it is one of his "tell us what we already know" columns. He is restating the obvious, and there is nothing new there, except for trying to prove "it's all about fit" by using the 50 year old example of Bob Vanatta. I am sure that example really struck home with all his readers.

Kudos to Wessler for getting the "scoop" on Les three weeks ago. I guess he's not as bad as some thought. He made a lot on here look foolish.

I dont get the feeling that KW had ALL his readers in mind...just two...or maybe only one.

Most of his articles the past 9 years have had that same trait.

KW is exactly correct, especially on a couple of his points.

"The next Braves coach cannot become the sixth successive one to get the boot."

I talked about this yesterday, but really think about that statement. We have HAD to fire the past 5 five coaches at Bradley. That is shockingly amazing. We don't seem to be able to get the guys who easily create a winning program and then move one.

Certainly each one had success at some point in their stay. However, each also stayed until it was too late.

I am not saying I want someone who is only going to stay for 3-4 years and then bolt, but I would want to get someone who can build long-term, mostly permanent success.

"There is no way to know for sure. That??™s the scariest part of making a coaching change."

Well this is true. Looking back I think there were times when we thought we had the right guy, but then the bottom dropped out on them. Obviously it's a gamble no matter who we hire.

And finally, "The job is more attractive today, and Les deserves some credit for that. He played a role in getting the new campus facilities built, and his Sweet 16 run in 2006 affirmed what remains possible here."

Jim did help get the new facilities built for BU. Plenty of coaches and players will still find BU a good place to be.

"I do know, though, that Bradley president Joanne Glasser and athletics director Michael Cross have to get this right."

                  Good luck.

this is total poppycock...if, as you say, KW had a clue that JG wanted to fire JL, then he was no less than 12-24 months behind "lots here"...
the entire athletic department have been walking on eggshells for two years...just ask KK, Little Bish, ABIII, and about 10 other major contributors to BU's athletic success in other sports...

BTW -- an interesting endeavor putting together a list of "potential candidates"....can anyone tell me who the candidates were the last time Dr. Glasser made a head basketball coaching hire or a hire of any kind?

If I didn't know any better, judging by some of the posts on this board, I'd just assume that BU is closing the doors on it's Division I basketball program. We're changing head coaches guys...the world is not over.

Just going from KW's article today, which I found lacking after the first few paragraphs, the coaches he mentioned as possibilities can EASILY be winnowed down to three names if BU does the correct thing and commit to the basketball program for the future. If some of the people on his list are named as the next BU coach, I will be very disappointed!
                            Bradley 72 - Illini 68 Final

???It??™s awful hard,??™??™ said Illini freshman guard D.J. Richardson, the former Central High School guard who played prep school ball a few miles from here and fought back tears outside the locker room. ???It??™s a hometown thing. It??™s bragging rights.??™
