Evansville beat city rival University of Southern Indiana 77-75. The game drew a crowd of 11,597.
These comments made me chuckle, though:
"Even a game named the Vectren Community Classic shouldn't come down to a last-second shot that let the University of Evansville escape..."
ESCAPE - they did!
"It's a frustrating, helpless feeling to have to watch," said Holsinger. "Our young guys did a nice job,....
I thought they had an experienced group coming back - a group where they wouldn't be relying on the young guys.
"Give UE credit," said USI coach Rick Herdes. "...But we were still able to have a shot to win at the end, even with 26 turnovers."
Give UE credit? I'd say give USI credit.
"It was a huge relief for the Division I Aces..."
That makes me laugh.
"I told the team there were a couple of things we need to improve," said Merfeld.
LOL!!! A COUPLE?

And we won't win at Drake.
And we won't win at ISU.
And we won't win at Indy St.
And everyone knows we won't be competitive with the rest on the road too (Creighton, Mizzo St, UNI, SIU and Wich St).
Next topic please.

A couple of big weaknesses were exposed for Evansville.
We all know Matt Webster is solid, but according to all reports, he was the only one on the Aces who blocked out or rebounded.
But they are woeful with their outside shooting (2-15 from 3-pt), and they are foul prone.
Don't just believe me, read a few of the dozen or so comments by readers and viewers of the game on that link above.
A few are pretty convinced it's Merfeld's last year, but then there were quite a few a year ago (on some other message board) saying the same about Jim Les.
