Todd Lickliter was signed by Iowa all the way through 2014...so before banking on him as a top candidate, maybe do a little homework and find this...

    One source said this....
"Lickliter has four years remaining (as of March 2010) on a seven year contract
that pays him $1.2 million a year. He has a buyout of $600,000 per year,
meaning Iowa owes him $2.4 million"

while another more recent source said this...
"Iowa will pay him $800,000 a year for each of the the next three years as
    part of the buyout agreement"

so...unless Bradley wants to pay Todd Lickliter $800,000 per year I have to think he will weigh his options carefully and might just decide to keep getting $800,000 through 2014 rather than come to Peoria and coach at Bradley for a little less than that...

I'm not sure how that works. Is there any clause where Iowa pays the difference between Bradley's salary and what is owed? Must not be. I wonder if that could be negotiated.

PS He would not be my top choice, but an acceptable one.

I have absolutely believe her firing of JL had nothing to do with the next coach and that she has no idea where the next coach will come from. But SHE will be making the decision. No one else will have any more input than a little research on their background.

No... I'm fairly certain Todd gets his money either way. I don't know why T might think otherwise, but I could be wrong.

I surely hope so! I great management team always prepares for contingencies. I'm betting this has been in the works for quite some time, wrong or right.

JL's personality probably did not get along with JG's. I can see JL being what I call a good soldier but not a "yes" man. I fall under the same umbrella and that is why I it is difficult for me to work for large top down organizations, unless I'm reporting to a CEO who likes real world input, good or bad, as long as it is the truth.

                what ??
you think he'd get the money under the contract from Iowa at the very time he'd be working at BU which would be a violation of his contract?

Nope -- wherever Mo worked while he was being "bought out" he had to return that salary to BU....you can't work for BU while you are receiving contact payments from Iowa unless you know some kind of very unusual contract law...

I am sure buyout agreements differ, but almost always if the agreement involves payments (partial or full) spread out over years, then it would also include an exclusion that would reduce the payments by whatever he would earn in any new job.

OTOH, if a buyout is settled with a 1-time payment, usually the coach is free to take another job any time.

Exactly. Todd would not make any less money working for BU, likely he would make more. See Charlie Weis, Gillespie, et. al.

I posted this in the other (similar thread), but it looks as if Pat Knight will be available.

Not saying that's bad, just different scenario.

                        And don't forget, Lickliter's 3rd, 4th & 5th seasons were 16-14 (no postseason), 13-15 (no) and 20-13 (NIT 1st round loss).
I'm not certain Lickliter is best for Bradley.
In 2003, Butler went to the sweet 16 with a senior laden roster. In 2003-2004, Butler had a highly touted recruiting class that essentially flopped. A lot of "me" guys. After two years, that class transfered and it was addition by subtraction.

In 2005-06, Lickliter took a team that essentially went 7 deep and didn't have a ton of talent to the NIT. Then took Butler to the sweet 16 the next season.

If you ask me, Lickliter learned something from that class. Recruiting talent isn't everything. You have to recruit a team.

The guy is a good coach. I have no doubt about that.

                          Here are a few...

Anthony Solomon- ND assistant, Also assistant at Clemson, Virginia, Bowling Green among others- recruiter.. Think he also was head coach at St. Bonaventure briefly..

Tony Benford- Nebraska Assistant, also at ASU and New Mexico

Melvin Watkins - Mizzou Asst- also been at Texas A&M and UNC Charlotte

Butch Pierre- OK State Asst, also been at LSU

Rob Judson- who doesn't know Jud?

If you like the style Mike Anderson coaches the Mizzou assistant to look at would be Matt Zimmerman. He has been an assistant under Anderson for 9 years now. 4 years at UAB and 5 at Mizzou and has helped turn both programs around. I would hate to see him leave Columbia but the man deserves a shot as a head coach.

Another option from the show me state that you all might consider is Kim Anderson the head coach from Central Missouri. He was an assistant coach at Baylor and Missouri when Norm Stewart was Mizzou's coach so he is familiar with D1 athletics. So far he has dominated at UCM. His record going into this year was 185-63 (101-45).

I'm a Mizzou and SLU fan but coaching searches always interest me and I love college basketball in general. I think Bradley has a lot to offer with a nice arena, very good fan support, and the MVC which is historically a good conference. Good luck in your coaching search.

You might want to look up judsons record as head coach at NIU in the new arena before you bring him in here?

I agree , do any of these posters do any research before giving us names like Judson, Giacoletti and some of these other coaches that have not done well in the past, also we need to stick with a asst. that has been in the midwest for awhile so he can recruit this area.
