  • Wish List - Our Next Coach

I am betting we will have a new coach in place quickly as BU is one of the first (if not THE first) mid-major program to fire their coach at the end of the season.

I haven't done a whole lot of reserach yet, but I hope we give Jerrance Howard from Illinois a good hard look. His biggest downside is lack of experience...has never had a head coaching job, and is not proven in the Xs and Os aspect of the game.

On the bright side he is young (30ish), great recruiter (credited for landing several of their recent Chicago kids), and is from Peoria (gives us a shot at great local talent). If he can find a couple Jim Platt-types for assistants who can help him. I think of Brad Stevens when I think of Jerrance.

I don't know if Jerrance is the right person for the job, but I hope he at least gets consideration.

Who is on your wish list?

Can we just get everyone to add a person and then compile a big list in about a week?

I'm sure AZ would be up to it since he likes that stuff...

    So here goes:

You had Jerrance and now ill add one...

    Jerrance Howard, Illinois (asst)

    Shaka Smart, VCU (hc)

Me too. Whether or not you agree with the decision to fire Les, at least the made a QUICK decision to allow us the best chance at some of the great assistants who are available. As much as I detested Muller when he was at ISU, he's definitely worth a look.

He may be a good coach (I don't know) but you would hack a bunch of people off by hiring Muller. Don't see that one happening.

First- don't know that it is true.. Shaka Smart is interesting, but I think there are others who would be better...
???We all want Bradley to win. If our methods and visions for that are different, then so be it. Don't ever attempt to tell me I am not a fan!???

I do not know if he or Bradley would have any interest

but Jacksonville Coach Cliff Warren would be someone I would look strongly at.

I would like to see Bradley look at Dino Gaudio, the guy who took over for Skip Prosser at Wake Forest, went 61-31 and got fired last year because of "lack of post season success". He is generally perceived as being in over his head as a major conference coach, but I think he is an intriguing prospect for any mid-major program.

Butler Associate Head Coach, Matthew Graves, is ready and has been apart of all of the what will be the 10th NCAA and 4 NITs in the last 16 years.

He would certainly have a blueprint for how consistency is built

Interesting... But I think Gary Close from UW would be more likely to move.. Gard is Associate head Coach, BU would be drop in pay I would bet..

                            Here are a few...

Anthony Solomon- ND assistant, Also assistant at Clemson, Virginia, Bowling Green among others- recruiter.. Think he also was head coach at St. Bonaventure briefly..

Tony Benford- Nebraska Assistant, also at ASU and New Mexico

Melvin Watkins- Mizzou Asst- also been at Texas A&M and UNC Charlotte

Butch Pierre- OK State Asst, also been at LSU

Rob Judson- who doesn't know Jud?

A lot of these suggestions are pretty good. I like the Jerrance Howard one best. My opinion goes fully towards Wayne McClain! He was the other main candidate when Les get hired and anyone from the area knows the success he's had. He's also been climbing up the staff at U of I and is now second in line as Associate Head Coach.
