In one of the lowest scoring games in regional play South Elgin beat Bartlett 33-32. But the finish was bizarre.
Bartlett took a 32-31 lead with 2.4 seconds left in the game. Elgin had the ball with a final chance to win, but the inbounds pass was intercepted by a Bartlett player who was immediaitely fouled. The player ran up into the stands to celebrate with the Bartlett students, and players on Bartlett's bench, as well as some students ran out on the court. But there was still 1.5 second left on the clock, so the officials called a technical foul on the bench for the players leaving to celebrate on the court. The player selected to shoot the technical free throws sank them both for a 33-32 South Elgin win.
Another bizarre situation developed in a 3A regional game between Chicago Orr and Chicago Marshall high schools. Their game was scheduled Friday at 6:00 pm. However, the Orr team thought the game was at 7:30, and showed up late for the game. The game was played after the Orr team arrived, and Chicago Orr beat Marshall 60-54. Marshall played the game "under protest" and has reportedly filed an official protest with the IHSA, but it is unlikely the IHSA will change the outcome of the game.
