  • Interesting / Depressing observation.

The state of Illinois has 3 MVC teams, more than any other state. All three of them are playing on THURSDAY! Illinois is not representin' real well.

Just a bad year peoriakid. There have been other years where all three are in contention.

It goes further than that, and it's really ugly for college basketball in Illinois

Here are the records of all 13 D1 schools in Illinois-

Illinois 18-11, 8-8, 4th in the Big Ten- NCAA bubble team
Northwestern 16-12, 6-11 in the Big Ten, now out of NCAA at-large contention
DePaul 7-21, 1-15, 16th in the Big East, no chance at an at large bid
Illinois State 12-18, 4-14, 9th in the MVC, no chance at an at large bid
Southern Illinois 12-18, 5-13, 8th in the MVC, no chance at an at large bid
Bradley 11-19, 4-14, 9th in the MVC, no chance at an at large bid
Loyola 16-14, 7-11, 8th in the Horizon League, no chance at an at large bid
Ill-Chicago 7-23, 2-16, 9th in the Horizon League, no chance at an at large bid
Northern Illinois 8-19, 4-10, 4th in the MAC West, no chance at an at large bid
Eastern Illinois 9-20, 4-14, 9th in the Ohio Valley, no chance at an at large bid
Western Illinois 7-22, 2-16, 9th in the Summit League, no chance at an at large bid
Chicago State 6-23, no chance at an at large bid
SIU-Edwardsville 8-21, no chance at an at large bid

Illinois, Northwestern, and Loyola are the only 3 with winning records, and nobody has a +.500 record in their conference.

Maybe we are not the home of March Madness after all.

Certainly, not our best year for hoops.
