Why put all your nuggets in one article? Why not stretch it out? It's taught all the time in journalism school.
But, it isn't necessary in this situation. There is already a built in story that people on both sides of the issue are curious to see what the resolution will be. If Reynolds had asked the questions to the administrators at the game and received the predictable "no comment" response, then he is set for at least two more articles down the road.

I like Dave. But this is shoddy journalism at it's best. As a former journalist, I can assure that nobody is ever "taught" to leave out important parts of any story. One of the oldest tricks in the shoddy-journalism book is to keep throwing questions at someone that refuses to answer, or doesn't know the answer, and try to make a story out of it. Coach Les even tells Dave he is not the one to make any decision, suggesting he go to the correct source, but Dave chooses to ignore his advice. John Supinie never writes stories about Bruce Weber's job without ample quotes from Ron Guenther, and I can't see any writer doing a piece like this without talking to the AD. And if he tried, he needs to say he tried, but he doesn't. And I agree the timing is suspicious to say the least. What does the PJ Star have against the coach?

I do not see how anyone could watch Warren all year long and determine he is NOT one of the top 5 players in the MVC this season.

He deserves serious consideration for MVP, leaving Warren off his 1st team is just horrible.

          Antoine Young over Warren, really?
first team yes......but I don't know how he could be MVP for a last place team....Young had a good year too.

I will say other than Weems....the rest of the MVP field is kind of light.

Please. You are entitled to your opinion about the article, but you are not entitled to tell others that they are wrong, and make up lame excuses to negate others' criticism.
This is one of the lamest excuses I have ever heard. If a writer is going to bring up something as important as the coach's job, there is no way he is going to leave out important facts to tease us.

Or it might be concluded that Dave wrote an article that many people are asking about.

ESPN's local show on Saturday has had two straight weeks of a ton of BU speculation callers.

The PJStar editorials have seen letters from both sides of the discussion.

This message board and the PJStar board have been full of Jim Les discussions.

I think the article tried to gauge Jim's thoughts on the topic. I also think Jim answered the questions in the best way possible.

Exactly Beni! Any grade schooler could write this story full of speculation. A journalist's job is to dig and ask the hard questions of people that the reader might not have access to. This story is incomplete without at least a "no comment" from Glasser and Cross. Les even tried to help him by telling him he was asking the wrong guy.

This baffled me too - everywhere else I'm hearing that Warren is 1 of 3 that is a lock for Valley 1st team. Nobody on mvcfans site disputes that.
AW had an incredible season and the rest of the league was keying in on stopping him & harrassing him every night. Yet AW found ways to do a little of everything on the court, having a team-first mentality EVERY time BU stepped on the court...as a last-place team.
Not to take anything away from Young, but Warren deserves it as a senior who had a stellar season and was just better than Young.
Josh Young got 1st team last year for a Drake team that finished 8th or 9th I think. And Warren's season was far better than JY's IMO.

Wasn't Dave Reynolds voted Illinois Sports Writer of the Year or something? I think he knows what he's doing.

The timing is really ridiculous....quite frankly when Dave asked the questions and got those answers from JL...you don't really have an article.
You still have a conference tourney to prepare for and try to win...and that's what he should have been talking about since that is what's next for Bradley....

It still doesn't mean this was a good story. As a former journalism major I can tell you that he laid an egg with this one.

I have read from the PJ Star apologists for years that the PJ Star works at a much higher set of standards than message boards, and call-in sports talk radio shows. But now you are saying that they don't? They do not need to check sources, or report the facts? They are nothing different than a message board poster or caller to a radio show?

Fair enough. Timing is curious, but perhaps he was told to write it. Who knows. He's succeeded in getting people talking about it. As JD said, it's not like people haven't been talking about this for a while.

                              Told to by whom?

And why are things different from last year? There were lots of buyout rumors last March that some of us here knew were completely false, but that didn't stop people from talking about them. I commend Dave for not taking the bait then and writing about it. I also commend KW for blasting the rumors as total falsehoods in his March 30, 2010 column. Why the 180 change now?

I understand it is a hot topic of discussion, so I don't mind the subject, but it could have been much more efficiently covered in two sentences at the end of a more relevant article. "Jim les won't comment about his future" or something like that would have been a solid Braves Brief.
