The Federal Office for Civil Rights
has ruled that elementary and high schools who have cheerleaders at boys games
MUST have them at girls games as well.
Schools that did not "violated the law".

If there is anyone left who doesn't think that the government isn't forcing their way into our lives too much, I'd like to hear from them.

This apparently applies to NY State schools, but since it is the Federal Department of Education's Office for Civil Rights making this decision, it logically could apply to all schools in the country.

But why stop at just having cheerleaders at girls basketball and softball games. Shouldn't the wrestlers, swimmers, and golfers have the same civil rights? I was on the chess club team in high school. What about the rights of chess players?

I have been to some school events where I was the only spectator there. Should cheerleaders be required even if there are no spectators? What silliness!

I have two middle school kids, and guess what.
When they hold cheerleading tryouts they'd love to get guys to come out but of course NONE do.
The cheer squad is all girls and they have great time going to the boys basketball games and cheering.

But 1/2 of the cheerleaders are the same girls who play girls basketball, so there wouldn't be much of a squad left if they had to go to the girls games.
And I'll even go so far as to bet that the girls who play basketball really don't want their classmates to feel compelled the cheer, and the cheerleaders probably don't like it either.
I guess I will have to see if our school reacts to this in some way.

They already have had to (by law) get a hotline to law enforcement agencies because of a new law that sprung out of the recent school attacks and shootings.
(remember, it was the arrival of the police at those school shootings that corresponded with the attacker turning the gun on the students.)
