  • Some results from last night -- Tyler Les, etc..

Tyler Les (UC-Davis) was 3-4 from 3pt again last night keepuing his season 3-pt shooting at the D-I level above 50%...

can you imagine if he can keep doing this for four full seasons!!..

The NCAA D-I career 3-pt percentage (minimum 200 made) is currently held by Tony Bennett of Wisconsin-Green Bay - who is now currently head coach at University of Virginia...
Tony completed his NCAA D-I career hitting 290-584, 49.7%, (1989-1992)
However -- since the 3-pt line was moved back about a foot, nobody has even finished a career above 45%...

If there's a team around here that's had worse troubles with injuries than BU it has to be Jim Molinari's WIU Leathernecks..

They have had at times, as many as 7 players out due to injury including the loss of their best player, and returning All Conference and Preseason 1st Team All Conference player Ceola Clark.
Their main core of 8 or 9 players who would have made up their rotation have missed a combined 97 games, and many of the starts have had to go to freshmen, deep subs, and even walk ons.
Their disappointing season will end next Tuesday as they did not qualify for the conference post-season tournament that allows only the top 8 teams in the conference standings.
If there's a silver lining -- it's that Ceola Clark will get a redshirt year and be back again next season with two full years of eligibility remaining, and ONLY ONE scholarship player - a deep sub - graduates and everyone else should be back!

Two teams that lost last night - Minnesota and Tennessee - up til a couple weeks ago were ranked (Tennessee was Top 10 much of the season) but may have now fallen off the bubble.
Hard to imagine how a team with as much talent as Tennessee could be so bad.

In Minnesota Tubby has similar problems....but this opens a couple of AT-LARGE spots...

Texas Tech loses again -- almost certainly Pat Knight's days are numbered

Look how far University of New Orleans has fallen...
Recall UNO was once a decent midmajor but is transitioning to D-III, but is still technically in D-I through this year...
Last night they played at Victory University -- a tiny college in Memphis, TN...
    and New Orleans lost!
Victory University is not D-I or D-II, and they aren't even D-III or NAIA...
they are a small Christian school that plays in the NCCAA (National Christian College Athletic Association).
They have only one team in their entire Athletic Department - and that's their men's basketball team, they sponsor no other sports and no womens' sports.

Illinois snaps back and beats Iowa but Bill Cole has a bad game, just 1-8 and 0-5 from 3-pt

Arizona State is winding down a terribly disappointing season -- loses to USC 62-46 with Corey Hawkins getting a few minuites of PT but Brandon Dunson not playing at all.

Our buddy Larry Eustachy may be watching his at-large possibilities slip away...
Losing last night to UCF and going 9-5 in CUSA, they need to win their final two games vs. Tulsa & UAB and do well in their tourney

Here's an interesting story on LSU...
LSU is a team with great tradition and a fairly recent degree of success.....
now they are hapless and being called "defenseless" despite throwing $millions to hire Trent Johnson....and coming off a 10 game losing streak...

Here are some really astute words from the top guy at Dayton talking about how disappointing their season has been...

"Everyone wants us to be in the NCAA Tournament, but the reality of it is we’re in a tough situation,” he said.
“There are something like 4 to 8 at-large spots for mid-major teams. Certainly everyone has high expectations
While he understands that, he doesn’t like it when people target the players or Gregory:
“I think Brian is doing a doing a great job. No one wants to be in the Tournament any more than he does
fans need to look at everything: The quality of the kids Brian brings in, the way they represent the university, graduation rates. And they do perform."http://www.udayton.edu/news/articles...dan_curran.php

Interesting local story on UConn's Jim Calhoun

A lot of people doubted Tyler Les, saying he wasn't a D1 player. I'd love to have a shooter of his quality on our team. At the very least he is a good D1 shooter and role player, and we will see how much he continues to develop as he is only a freshman.

IMO we could really use a Tyler Les type person. BU needs to find a knock down three point specialist to add to the roster. With AW gone next year we don't have a real good 3-point threat (Sammy??) to keep the defense honest. DSE is OK and JE might be OK but we need a proven 3 point guy.
