University City, Missouri (western suburb of St. Louis) High School is dedicating and naming their basketball court after former Bradley player Hasan Houton who was a star player there in the 1970's.-
The basketball court will be named in honor of Houston. He was a St. Louis Post-Dispatch All-Metro performer in 1976. In 1981, Houston helped lead Bradley to the championship of the National Invitational Tournament.
note there is an error- Bradley won the NIT in 1982, not 1981, and Hasan Houston was not a member of that 1981-82 NIT team. Hasan helped lead Bradley to the MVC championship in 1980.
Hasan Houston played for Bradley and Coach Dick Versace for 2 seasons, 1979-80 and 1980-81. Hasan started and played at Kansas for 1 1/2 seasons, then transferred to St. Louis University, then to Bradley.
At Univercity City HS he was a prep All-American, and averaged 31 ppg his senior season. He was named Alll-Stae, All-Metro St. Louis, and All-Conference, and was also named the Player of the Year in the St. Louis area his senior season.
Some might recall the sad story of Hasan. He had a massive heart attack in 2004 and suffered brain damage when his heart stopped. He was revived and recovered enough to return home after spending many months in the hospital. He remains at his home in San Jose, CA and is cared for by his wife.
