Billy just did an interview and here it is.
He has a right to his opinion even if he has no respect for the midmajors.
But if he is going to LIE then he needs to be called out.
Lie #1
"last year there was tremendous incentive for teams in the ACC and other major conferences to play the so-called mid-majors, and to play them on the road"
-->>there is?? Then why have all the ACC coaches kept saying they have NO desire to go out and play the Valley teams on the road, they literally say there is NO INCENTIVE to do so.
Lie #2
"Last year's committee (NCAA selection committe) had lots of people with mid-major backgrounds, and that was the result. That's not really the way those committees are designed to be."
-->>NOT TRUE. BCS conferences make up about 100 of the 336 NCAA D-I teams, and include 8 of the 32 D-I conferences.
BUT 4 of the 10 members on the NCAA selection committee represented those BCS schools and conferences.
AND, he suggests that someone "design" the committee differently?
But it has been BCS folks who have controlled the NCAA for eons and the head of the committee is always a BCS guy.
You don't recall Dave Gavitt????????????
Lie #3
"I'm not trying to make a judgment about those people's morality or ethics."
-->> You aren't? But you have been slamming them openly in the high profile press and on air media continually for the last 8 months!! Waht a liar.
Lie #4
"So they sent the message that major conferences need to play on the road against mid-majors."
-->> No they didn't. They NEVER said any such thing, but they did suggest the BCS guys should stop AVOIDING the midmajors.
Lie #5
"But what we often forget is that the road you travel in the tougher conferences can damage you in ways that extend well beyond the actual wins and losses."
-->> But the NCAA uses as objective of a formula as humanly possible, using RPI, SOS, etc. All determined by formulas that the BCS people were the ones who came up with these.
They were the ones who wanted the RPI-based formula because it has always and perennially benefitted them because they get ranked high and play each other so they always had the higher RPIs.
Now that the formula shows how strong the midmajors are getting they want to jettison it and go back to the good ole buddy system of BCS mentality and include only their buds.
BIGGEST LIE OF ALL
" If you took Maryland and put them in George Mason's league, and you took George Mason and put them in Maryland's league, by March the Maryland team probably would have been the more effective team than George Mason."
-->> NOPE, by March George Mason was kicking butt all the way to the Final Four and Maryland got bounced out of the NIT at home by the lowest seed in the tournament.
SECOND BIGGEST LIE
"My basic rule is that I don't get involved in trying to judge a team before I see them play."
-->>What a bold face liar this guy is!!
He openly admitted after criticizing the Valley last spring tha he hadn't seen any of their games!!!!
And lastly, the most brutally honest and revealing thing the guy says in this interview:
"Here's what surprises most people: I spend no time at all ???‚¬??? zero ???‚¬??? researching that stuff during the offseason. I've been that way for the last half-dozen years or so. I used to try to figure everything out, but I don't spend one second on that anymore."
Ahhh, now it's obvious why Billy Packer doesn't know a doggoned thing about the very thing he claims to be such an expert in!!
He has a right to his opinion even if he has no respect for the midmajors.
