If you don't want weaknesses in your recruiting targeted, you might as well get out of the business.

Seriously, that's part of the deal. I would expect us to do it equally in our efforts.

I don't think any coaches are worried about other coaches pointing out factual "weaknesses". It is the false charges, distortions, and outright lies that characterize some coach's recruiting tactics.

Who are the coaches doing this? I talk to a decent amount of coaches and I don't hear any of them naming coaches who do this.

If its a lie and a distortion them I'm sure the recruit can figure that out for himself.

You are not serious? Happens all the time and it's been this way for a very long time. Some coaches have integrity and others do not and this is just not a part of sports but everyday life. I can tell you I have spoken to quite a few coaches and every single one of them have told me that their profession is quite competitive and some will take advantage of any rumor regardless of being substantiated or not and run with it. My brother is friends with an ex-assistant to a major basketball school and he told him stories of a few recruiting battles that came down to dirty tactics, which his employer refused to play.

As you said, most coaches, while they are still active in coaching will not talk about this, and will be careful not to name names.

But a coach can easily say to a certain recruit that Coach X is under suspicion by the NCAA of cheating, and something as subtle and untrue as that can dissuade the recruit from considering that school.

Negative recruiting even goes on when a coach is not interested in a kid for himself. Maybe a coach will call a recruit who is committed to a rival school, and he drops a hint that the coach may be fired, or is being investigated by the NCAA and tries to talk the kid out his committment. It happens all the time.

As I said, only a small segment of coaches do this.

DC, do you ever feel like it's getting to the point where you could say the sun rises in the east, and half a dozen posters would disagree with you?

SFP...when did I question whether or not this was happening? Of course its happening. I believe that.

But my point was that everyone points fingers that everyone ELSE is doing it, but not them. Of course their profession is competitive. There is a lot of money at stake.

But your last sentence backs up what I am saying....yep, everyone ELSE is dirty, just not me or my favorite team

Back to the topic at hand, I have to give some blame to Elgin himself as he is the one who imposed the scheduling criteria back about a decade ago that really worked wonders for the Valley's non-conference strength of schedule. I realize that he believes that teams should be "adult" enough to come up with the best schedule possible, but sometimes there are always the same offenders that need "hand holding" so to speak. So I really think Elgin needs to reinstate that rule. That won't necessarily mean that we would win most of those games, but a strong schedule at least gives each team an opportunity to control their own destiny when it comes to building an at-large resume.

Perhaps the original rule could be modified so that teams with younger rosters would not have to adhere to same criteria that a team full of veterans would have to abide by in that a younger team can lose confidence with a tough schedule. But at the very least he not allow any team, even the young ones, to schedule a bunch of sub 250 RPI cupcakes. That has done more to hurt this conference the last three years than any win/lose percentage ever has. ISU red is the prime offender of course, but others have started to trend that way too, and that cannot be allowed to continue.

I'm sure thats the case...and I'm also sure there are many more people that could say it sets in the West and dozens would disagree with THAT person also.

When someone makes a statement and other disagree you'll get a response. It still fascinates me (allthough not as much as it used to) why some are shocked when something they post draws a response.
