Southern Illinois struggled, but beat Quincy University 70-64.

SIU was without several players due to suspensions and injuries.

Here is another one that is not MVC, but of some local interest--

Jon Scheyer, now a freshman at Duke, played his first colege game tonight. He had 19 points as Duke beat Shaw College in an exhibition.

I know they are good defensively. And they have potential offensively. And they return everything from last year. And they add some new guys. And they are expected to do a lot.

        But...

They are a team that can struggle to score points. And if you return the same guys that struggled last year... they might struggle again this year.

I like SIU in the whole picture of NCAA basketball - people wanna talk BCS and then give recognition to what the MVC might have to offer. I raise a flag for SIU, Creighton, WSU, and Mo St along with good teams like UNI and Bradley.

But I said it last year, during the MVC tourney... SIU is the WORST team to watch on National TV. Digger backed me up on that one, sort of... saying it was the worst game he watched (or something to the effect).

So SIU better find some offense to go with their defense. If so, big things will come.

Wow, both teams struggled to beat teams they should have handled easily.
Does this mean they are not what people expect?

SIU went with four players at about 30 minutes and more of playing time each..and Kobby Acquah (the new 7-footer) got only one minute and apparently never touched the ball.

Creighton actually trailed until 40 seconds to go in the game, and won in overtime on some clutch shooting by Nate Funk.
Funk played 40 minutes, and the other starters logged heavy minutes as well.
EA Sports was whistled for twice as many fouls in the game (26-13) and CU benefitted from getting to shoot three times as many free throws!! (30-11)

Mullins was in midseason form last night I see, 5 turnovers to go with the 7 assists.

ruff is so much better than mullins it is not even close.siu has already suffered two injuries to players. they might be the biggest bust of the valley this season.i think we have a chance to finish higher than them in the conference.

I hope in a few weeks there are more who believe like you.
Did you catch Kirk Wessler's column, he is beginning to budge and admit BU could do better than the media poll says.
And it is based on the fact that for at least one half of preseason basketball, he saw them play.
