Do you still hold a grudge after 9 years that your candidate wasn't selected?

No, to be honest DC I didn't have a dog in that fight. I am friends with WM but didn't think he was the answer,if thats what your referring to. I guess if I had to go out on a limb my choice would have been the gentlemen Dayton hired. I know I sound anti Jim sometimes but really I'm not. I just want BU to get back to where we are at least in the hunt for a title every year and I don't see that happening. I think Jim is a great ambassador for the University but that does not make him a good coach, recruiter or developer of talent. I certainly wish it would have worked for JL but the results are proof of the pudding. If we decide to keep JL another year I would have no problem with all the injuries we've had but if we cut bait I'll support whoever we bring in. Glad its not my decision.

Thanks for being so frank and honest. However, there are some people who still hold a serious grudge. Some still talk about it as if it happened yesterday. Some people who were big money donors and strong fans, stopped giving, didn't renew their tickets, and have never come to another game.
Some still think we should hire WM today. And some hold their grudge against Jim personally. Too bad.

Thats too bad that some might still hold a grudge..but thats on them and I don't really care. To me thats being selfish. You support who got hired....the University is bigger then any ONE person IMO.

I spoke with KW at the Smoker last year and asked him straight up...do you want Jim gone/fired.

At that moment he said no......wanted to see what the year brought about.

I think that describes 95% of the fans as well.

As for WM.....I would never ever want him as BU coach. Ever.

Its not about NOT wanting someone as much for me as WANTING someone. I WANT someone thats proven he can win at this level.

BU shouldn't be a learning on the job type place.......JMHO.

                  Da Coach,
I know some of these people, but arent you putting them all in one basket? The one I think of most, was upset with the way Mo was let go, not that Wayne wasnt hired...

Maybe you arent broad brushing, I don't know.

I will say certain people, like to put those of us that are not, or were not in the JL camp, as being pro wayne.

Wayne is a good man, but not experienced enough IMO. Now he is too old, IMO

Da Coach...this is where I have a beef. You seem to lump everyone who didn't think Jim was the best candidate for the job as automatically wanting Wayne McClain and then were angered when he didn't get it.

That's just not true. I think you are focusing on a very, very, very small group of people in Peoria. The Bradley universe is much larger than some people in Peoria--thankfully.

I just don't know who these people are you keep referring to. If they aren't posters on the board why do you keep bringing it up? Doesn't make sense to me.

At the time I did not think Jim Les was the right candidate for the job. That is an easy one. Nor did I think Wayne McClain was the right candidate for the job.

That said--it was a long time ago. Let's look forward, not back.

That pretty much echoes my thoughts as well, although I am a bit more inclined for a change at this point. I get kind of irritated that people think I have something against the guy. Nothing could be further from the truth. He was one of my favorite players ever, and has done some very good things over the past 9 years (as I pointed out in another thread). I have been very disappointed in the performance the last couple of years, and feel it may be time to head in a different direction looking at the entire body of work. It's not personal, and it never has been. But like you coyote, I am glad it's not my decision.

Seconded. By all accounts Jim Les is a very good man. He has been nothing but nice to me in my limited interactions with him. He has done some good things as head coach. He has a great career as a player.

I really loved Jim Molinari as well. One of my all-time favorite people. But I thought it was probably time for Bradley to make a change when it did and I kinda feel the same way now. It is 100% not personal towards the person holding the position of head men's basketball coach at Bradley University.

Unfortunately I think that's exactly what BU and most mid-majors are. On rare occasions you'll get a coach who will stick around or who is a proven guy that didn't succed at the high-major level. But neither BU nor any other MVC school is a destination. BU has had minimal success since the 50's in the grand scheme of things, and to think we're going to get a proven coach is having delusions of grandeur. We might be able to hire an assitant from a BCS school if we're lucky, but more than likely we'll be looking at candidates who are far less qualified. Hiring a coach who's had moderate success at a low major school is porbably what were looking at as the best-case scenario, all things considered (including one here I did not mention).

IMO we should be looking at an Izzo or Bo Ryan assistant. However what should happen and what will happen are probably two different things.

???It??™s awful hard,??™??™ said Illini freshman guard D.J. Richardson, the former Central High School guard who played prep school ball a few miles from here and fought back tears outside the locker room. ???It??™s a hometown thing. It??™s bragging rights.??™

I feel the opposite I think young coaches for 5 years or so would be good. Hopefully we win enough that that could change eventually, but probably just a stepping stone job.

I feel exactly the same. A assistant from a succesfull program that can build us up for a while and then move on if they want.
