Clearly Les's one and only priority tonight was to make sure Jake Koch didn't put another 34 on us like he did up in Cedar Falls...

OK, mission accomplished there, I suppose...unfortunately, the rest of our defensive blueprint involved packing in the zone, sagging off of everyone on the perimeter and letting UNI have an uncontested 3-point shooting workout in our gym for the night...

      I hope people understand that a 2-3 is 3 point shooter's paradise....

why couldn't we just adjust and see what happened. They had atleast 5 feet of free space on half their 3's

Someone might want to correct me but it appeared to me in the second half we were playing a 3-2 zone which gave their shooters in the corners much more room. I might add the "T" on Jim did not hurt us but there is never a good time to get one. One other thing, has anyone seen JP. He was having a great game then he went missing. I'm heading to the store to check the milk cartons??

I don't know what game you were watching but we definitely did not run a 2-3 all game

I coached, albeit Junior High, for ten years. I used zones almost exclusively. Playing a zone does not cost you a game.

Failing to adjust if the zone is not working CAN lose you a game.

I have heard time and time again that zones should not be used, and zones are not real defense. That's insane. A good zone is incredibly useful, especially when you are outnumbered or outgunned.

You have to be willing to change it though, if the game dictates it.

I think bu was in man until the last 50 seconds of the first half. We did play a lot more zone in the second half and stuck with it at times when it was hurting us... Kinda wondered of it wasn't to save stamina with dodie restricted by his foul situation.

T , i agree we did not run a 2-3 zone all night, but that is not the point. It was a horrendous effort on our defensive end and that led to a defeat. We snatched defeat right out of the jaws of victory. Don't get me wrong ,Im not blaming JL for that whole mess but you have to admit there were some very questionable decisions made last night that might very well have changed the out come to a "W". It's hard to argue the numbers on how we did with 2 bigs in the game as opposed to JP not needing a shower after the game. By the way I will go on record ,the "T" did not cost us the game.

We were playing a 1-2-2 zone and quite a bit of man to man as well...actually mixed it up and it worked in the 1st half...UNI adjusted....

there was a time where we were in that zone and the left baseline player (not sure who) was playing man to man or just did not get there...wide open three for UNI...

I thought we mixed it up pretty good though...just need to defend the three better...period..

Well we didn't run it allllllll night.....but whatever "zones" we did try certainly didn't help prevent the 15 3's

Did we ever run a 1-3-1? That would have worked....although I did have a few before the game and sometimes and I can't focus all the time....

Don't most Ivy League teams use the zone, especiallly since most Ivy League teams use it to compensate for the lack of offense?

That might be the problem here. Good teams will adjust to whatever defensive pressure is thrown at them. When we don't get to a player in time, that's on the players, not the coach.
