  • Loren Tate Mentions Bradley

My question is simple. About 2 months ago, you wrote that Guenther would have a real decision regarding Ron Zook because Paul Petrino might leave. It was your opinion that Petrino should be elevated to head coach. Fine.

Where is a similar piece about Jerrance Howard and Bruce Weber? Petrino and Howard have never been head coaches and both have had a significant impact on making their bosses look much better than they are. How can you say it's ok for Petrino to become an Illini head coach but not Howard?

Tate: I did not conclude that Petrino should be promoted to head coach. At no time did I say that. What I said was that the situation would require some heavy thinking, and it would be a shame to losing the most valuable member of the offensive think tank.

Jerrance Howard appears to be a good recruiter but you, like many others, are overlooking the recent job Weber has done in lining up Richmond, Paul and others on this squad. It's OK with me if you want to believe otherwise, but you are wrong.

Howard is not ready to be the head coach at the University of Illinois. Let's see what happens at Bradley if Jim Les is let go.

      Your money is safe....
???We all want Bradley to win. If our methods and visions for that are different, then so be it. Don't ever attempt to tell me I am not a fan!???

Memo to Loren Tate: If Jerrance Howard isn't ready to be the head coach at Illinois then he isn't ready to be the head coach at Bradley.

I sort of thought that was tate's point.

If he isn't getting the BU job, and I doubt he will...he isnt getting the U of I job

Howard has been a good recruiter for Illinois, he has never been a head coach at any level so I hope he never gets any consideration at Bradley because it just does not make any sense.

It makes sense if BU doesn't want to spend much money and wants to try and extend an olive branch at a community it supposedly alienated by not hiring Wayne McClain. He isn't in my top 10 either, but the job isn't available so there's no use speculating.

I would give him consideration, how serious that consideration would be is variable though I guess.

And this next part of my post IS NOT, I repeat IS NOT meant to incite any harsh feelings, but our previous hire didnt have any coaching experience period, let alone a head coaching job. If/when the BU job opens, personally, I would at least give Jerrance a call.

He is worthy of consideration IMO...But he is awfully young..

But the guy at wku was young too.

Does this qualify as being officially mentioned so now we can talk about a change

Guys -- Loren Tate knows little to nothing about Bradley -- but as long as Bradley beats Illinois -- he doesn't like Bradley, or JL -- so whatever he says, it's irrelevant to our situation since he's not knowlegable on issues with BU...

BUT -- here's where this is coming from....
Tate, a big time U of I fan -- has been championing Jerrance Howard for a head coaching spot somewhere -- preferably a good job nearby -- since Jerrance hit the ground at Illinois.

Tate basically predicted that Jerrance was such a hot commodity that probably Bradley would snap him up instantly -- and he said this, like TWO years ago...
So, what this is --- it's just a way of Tate kinda covering his butt on his embarrassingly wrong predictions from a couple years ago --reiterated again last year -- because not only is Jerrance Howard still at U of I but JL is still at Bradley...

so Tate feels the need to make himself appear better & smarter than everyone else by claiming it's a stupid move on Bradley's part that JL is still in place and Howard is still not a head coach.

I don't know Tate, and don't care to. But I do know that he knows no more about the situation at Bradley than anyone of us here do.

I've met Loren Tate. Wasn't particulary pleasant to me but oh well.

I admittedly am not a Loren Tate fan. He is an excruciating Illini homer. Count me as one Bradley fan who didn't give two cruds that Jerrance Howard "turned his back" on Bradley. He wasn't a very good player. He wouldn't have played at Bradley either.

Loren's ship sailed about 15 years ago.

*****I just noticed this editorial was written in July. Much has changed since then.
