It is very difficult for me to see how anyone can say our defense was not bad last night.

Points are points and they scored 80, thats from a team that averages 63 a game. Again 80 given up on your home court to a team that averages 63 is unacceptable.

I do not care if they made all their points on 3's or dunks or whatever 80 points to a very average scoring team is not good or even decent defense it is poor defense.

BTW they also made 23 of 26 free throws, we committed 23 fouls. So along with the very high % of 3's they made they also converted on a lot of free points from the line.

They made 21 shots from the field (15 of those were 3's) of which they had 17 assists. Meaning they not only made alot of shots from beyond the arch but they were able to move the ball to OPEN shooters against our defense. That tells me we were very poor at both defending one on one but also rotating to open shooters.

Spin spin spin until your head explodes but there isnt anything from last night that indicates that this Bradley team played anywhere near decent defense.

Oh wait Bradley did create 8 steals off of 10 turnovers so there is something. BTW they were missing their best rebounder and they still out boarded us by 5 on a night we were focusing on interior defense.

Just for fun UNI has scored in the 80's 3 times this season... once against Coe College and who have they gotten to 80 against the other two times? Bradley University.

Going into the game, I can understand the gameplan and playing the zone. UNI is not a great 3pt shooting team. Really it worked for the first 25-30 minutes of the game. #52 for them did hit a few in the first half and I thought we did a good job of adjusting and getting out on him the rest of the first half.

But in the 2nd when he was shooting, he wasn't even moving off of screens. He was just standing there waiting for the ball and we didn't adjust and get out on him and we paid the price. Poor defense in the 2nd half and bad defensive rebounding cost us the game.
Some see a hopeless end, while others see an endless hope.

In all honesty, this should not have been a surprise to the staff. UNI used the same perimeter schemes in the first game this season.
        Bradley 72 - Illini 68 Final

???It??™s awful hard,??™??™ said Illini freshman guard D.J. Richardson, the former Central High School guard who played prep school ball a few miles from here and fought back tears outside the locker room. ???It??™s a hometown thing. It??™s bragging rights.??™
