SIU wins at Wichita State; Drake beats Creighton; Evansville beats UNI
This severely damages our chances of an at-large bid from the Valley. BUT it still is early enough for one or two teams to run the table and play their way back into at-large contention. But for the moment it does not look too good after what took place tonight.
But at least our win at SIU looks pretty darn good now! And maybe this makes us better than WSU using the logic that we beat the team who beat them at their place!

How in the world does Wichita St. only score 53 points at home against SIU, no way the Valley gets more then 1 bid after tonights results.

How about Evansville and what Marty Simmons is doing over there?
I wouldn't exactly say they have all the talent in the world outside of Colt Ryan...
For a couple of years now I've really liked how Marty has his players move without the ball. They're everywhere and everybody's screening all the time. I'm not sure it's good, but it looks good. If only he didn't coach his guys to flop so much I'd really like it-- but I hate the flopping.

I agree and if only he could recruit or were at a place that were easier to recruit, I wonder how good he would be...
As you have basically said there, he's an outstanding X and O coach...
I have allways liked Marty as a coach, and this is probably his best year coaching at Evansville. Evansville is 14-10, and 8-6, though in a down year for the MVC. They have one of the easiest remaining schedules, playing only 2 more MVC road games at Bradley and Drake, and home games against Illinois State and Wichita State. With Northern Iowa's slump, there is a possibility they could climb into 3rd place. With an RPI over 100, there is little chance of getting into the NCAA or NIT, IMO.
Another real possibility is that Creighton could fall to 7th and end up playing Bradley in the play-in round.

He has done a phenomenol job with what he's got in Evansville. They seem to do well with a bunch of little guys. I hope JL isn't watching too carefully!
Kudos to Marty - I think he exceeded expectations in non-conf., and he has definitely exceeded expectations in league play.

I dont see any way CU falls to 7 with 3 home games left and two against play in teams. They will be at least 9-9 and the Drake wont win 3 of heir last 4 to get to 9-9 either. 3-6 is still a toss-up but its looking more and more like a 7-10 date with the drake for us unless we can win our home games and at ISU. A loss at ISU all but assures a 10th place finish as they would win head to head tiebreaker for 9th

I am not ready yet to concede this...as I think this reflects more the weakness in the lower 70-80% of the MVC than any strength in Evansville...
This is a team that lost to Middle Tennessee and Air Force...
They're also not really among the leaders among Valley teams in any stat category -- in the categories that reflect fundamentals...
they're 9th in FT% and 3-pt %, and 8th in other fundamentals stat categories like rebounding...
Even some of their defensive stat numbers are pretty bad such as overall scoring defense - 8th in the Valley, FG% defense - 10th in the Valley...
So I am no more inclined to jump on the Evansville bandwagon NOW, than I was inclined like a whole lot of people to jump on the Indiana State bandwagon about 2 weeks ago - before they lost 5 in a row, and the UNI bandwagon just a week ago before they lost their last TWO!
Personally I think the bottom 8 Valley teams are all playing about the same right now and every game is a pickem....it's going to be interesting on Thursday and Friday nights in St. Louis to see who's left...
