  • Justin Bocot

I thought with 3 of the regular SIU players suspended (2 starters) we would see Justin Bocot play more. But even with SIU shorthanded, he never got into the game yesterday. He was a starter by the end of his freshman season, his entire soph season, and this season until 4 weeks ago. He started, played 28 minutes, and scored 14 points against Bradley in Peoria back on Jan. 4. But then his minutes dwindled and he has not started since Jan. 7, and did not play at all last Wednesday (vs. Drake) and yesterday.

It's been reported Bocot had some kind of ankle injury, but he was said to be ready to return and be ready to play yesterday. But most of the opinion among Saluki fans is that his lack of playing time has more to do with a loud and vulgar verbal altercation Bocot had with Chris Lowery and assistant coach Lance Irvin on the Saluki bench during the Jan. 7 game against Creighton. He lost his starting position immediately after that game, played very little over the next 7 games, and has not gotten off the bench the last 2.

Justin was one foot out the door last year, and with both Dillard and Booker leaving, I figure the only reason he stayed was that he felt they would design the offense to run through him, which wasn't the case, as he became the 3rd/4th option behind Fay and Teague, and then Seck came in and took a portion of his shots as well...

Justin is a good role player, but his ego makes him believe he should be the star...
