The NCAA has granted another rare 6th year waiver...
it went to a kid who transferred........which generally 6th year waivers do not...
Brady Thomas is a baseball player who started his career in 2005-2006 at Florida State. He played in 9 games that year, then his season ended due to illness.
At that time, the rules required that he play in fewer than 20% of his team's games, but 9 was way under 20% of the 68 scheduled games Flaorida State had.
However -- even though he applied for a redshirt for 2005-2006 he was turned down on a technicality....and failed to submit the proper records.
Then he played only a partial season in 2006-2007 as his ulcerative colitis flared up again, and then he transferred to South Carolina to be closer to his home and treating physicians.
He then played about half of both 2008-2009 and 2009-2010...
thus his clock ran out with his transfer year of 2007-2008 being his official redhsirt year.
he has now been granted another (retroactive) redshirt year for his first season...thus getting the rare 6th year waiver.....
BUT this one is controversial since he is a KEY player on the NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP South Carolina team and by getting an extra year & returning - he definitely helps tilt the balance of power in the SEC.
