    THE STORYLINE
Bradley will shoot for consecutive wins for the first time since Dec. 20-22 when the Braves visit Southern Illinois Saturday afternoon ... The Braves also will be shooting for consecutive wins in Carbondale for the first time since 1996 and 1997 ... While the all-time series between Bradley and Southern Illinois primarily has been dominated by the home teams, the last three games in the series have been won by the visiting team ... A win Saturday by the Braves would give the visiting team in the Bradley-Southern Illinois series a fourth consecutive win, which would be a series first.
    WITH A WIN
Bradley will ... Snap a 10-game road losing streak ... Give ninth-year Braves head coach Jim Les his 150th career win ... Earn consecutive wins at Southern Illinois for the first time since 1996 and 1997.
Southern Illinois will ... Sweep the regular-season series versus Bradley for the fifth time in 10 years ... Snap a four-game overall losing streak and a two-game home skid.
    AGAINST SOUTHERN ILLINOIS
Saturday's game will be the 90th in the all-time series between Bradley and Southern Illinois, which dates back to a 31-23 Braves victory Dec. 21, 1927 at the Peoria Armory ... Although Bradley owns a 41-38 lead in the all-time series, Southern Illinois owns a 21-14 home record against the Braves ... Following that Bradley win in 1927, the in-state rivals did not meet again until Southern Illinois joined the Missouri Valley Conference in 1975-76 ... Including a 72-64 win Jan. 4 at Carver Arena, Southern Illinois has won 17 of the last 23 meetings.
    FORMER MVC POINT GUARDS
Saturday's game features two coaches who first made names for themselves as point guards at their alma maters ... The dean of Missouri Valley Conference head coaches, Jim Les was the point guard at Bradley from 1983-86 ... Les was the 1986 MVC Player of the Year and Frances Pomeroy Naismith Hall of Fame Award winner after helping the Braves (16-0) to an undefeated Valley regular-season title ... SIU coach Chris Lowery helped Southern Illinois to three straight MVC Tournament titles from 1993-95.
    CALENDAR EFFECT
January has by far been the coldest month for ninth-year Bradley head coach Jim Les ... The Braves are 33-51 (.393) in January under Les, while playing 51 of those 84 games without the likes of Phillip Gilbert (missed nine January games due to injury), Jeremy Crouch (eight), Daniel Ruffin (six) Will Egolf (eight), Andrew Warren (eight), Dodie Dunson (10), Dyricus Simms-Edwards (two), Taylor Brown (10) and Sam Maniscalco (10) -- 71 individual games missed ... February is Les' winningest month (37-27, .57 and is second only to November (.660) by percentage ... Not coincidentally, the Braves have been without the above nine players for just 21 February games due to injury: Warren (11), Egolf (eight), Dunson (nine), Brown (1) and Maniscalco (1) -- 30 individual games missed -- though Brown and Maniscalco will not return this season.
    SLOW STARTS
Bradley hast started slow throughout this Valley season ... The Braves have yet to score more than 32 points in a Valley first half and Bradley is averaging 25.1 points on 38.4 percent (114-297) shooting from the field in the first 20 minutes ... Making Bradley's first-half situation worse, the 12 Valley opponents have averaged 33.5 points on 45.5 percent (153-336) in the opening frame ... Bradley has trailed at halftime in nine of the first 12 Valley games, facing an average deficit of 8.4 points ... Conversely, Bradley has averaged 38.0 points on 45.5 percent (157-345) shooting in the first 12 Valley second halves ... Bradley's 12 Valley opponents have averaged 37.6 points in the second halves and the Braves have outscored the opposition in the second half five times and played them even in two other second halves.
    THE TURNOVER STORY
Turnovers have been a telling statistic in Bradley's outcomes this season ... Bradley is 7-4 when it commits fewer turnovers than the opposition ... The Braves are 0-12 when they commit at least as many turnovers as the opposition this year ... In Bradley's seven wins, the Braves have averaged just 12.0 turnovers per game, while forcing an average of 18.3 turnovers by the opposition ... In the 16 losses, however, Bradley's turnover average is slightly higher at 13.4 per game, but the Braves have forced only 11.3 miscues ... The Braves are forcing only 10.8 turnovers in conference action ... Further compounding the issue, the opposition has outscored Bradley 161-129 in points off turnovers in the first 12 conference games.
    LOOKING AHEAD
Bradley will remain on the road for a Feb. 9 game at Missouri State that will be televised by the MVC on FS Midwest, Comcast SportsNet Chicago, FS Indiana, FS Kansas City and Fox College Sports.

Looking at the first BU-SIU game statistics, BU should have a even chance vs SIU, even on the road at Carbondale....

Statistics in the first game were practically even...BU came up just short in their 2 pt and 3 pt shooting %, but, held their own vs SIU everywhere else including FT/FT %, RB, ORB, A, and TO....

AW had a tough game 3-14...To borrow a JL-ism, clean that up a bit, and BU should have a good shot at a MVC winning streak!

Some of Bradley's chances tomorrow depend on who the officials are, and how well Bradley can shoot the three pointer. I know some people hate to hear about officiating, but there are some MVC refs who allow the clutch and grab defense that Chris Lowery likes to employ. That is what slowed down AW in the last BU-SIU game, and if they allow it tomorrow, it will be very tough for Bradley to win. And as Drake proved last Wednesday, SIU is beatable if you are hitting the three. Drake blew out SIU 65-44 and shot 16-24 from three. Drake was only 7-27 on other shots. I don't expect that kind of shooting, but we need to hit some open shots, which SIU's defense gives you.

Not to be a Debbie Downer, but when was the last time we shot the 3 well?

DSE needs to come up big again and we need to stop Fay...

If DSE/Dunson outscore Fay/Seck, we probably win

Limit Fay to 14 points, Seck to 10 and score 64 points and BU should be in good shape to win this game, Prosser and Egolf should have a field day inside with Teague being suspended, get the ball inside and get SIU in foul trouble.

I think we need to draw a map....

As that is about as easy for most of our guards as it is for ESPN to find Bradley University.

                  anyone going to Carbondale

Mr. Naptown and I were on are way to SIU. However the weather is horrible here in Indy not to mention the freeway's are covered with snow and ice, so we turned around and headed back home.

Does anyone know if there is a "game stream"? Please let me know.
