He is definitely not in the same league as a healthy Brian Randle

Not a former Illini, but I think he could play a game similar to that of former Iowa Hawkeye Greg Brunner. Or, maybe he could become a Brian Cardinal type player.

I have made this comparison before. I think the player he most resembles in my memory is Centralia star Matt Shaw, who went on to a pretty good career at SIU. Like Max, Shaw was an inside player in HS, and got most of his points at the basket. He had to change his game in college, and did so. He became a pretty effective perimeter player. He also bulked up and was a decent 3/4 player.
I see no way Max can play the 4 or 5 in the Big Ten like he does at PND. Will he be able to alter his game enough? Will they ask him to redshirt?
Of the other kids Bruce Weber has committed for 2011, 4 of them are listed as forwards, so will Max be able to get any playing time with them and Griffey, Richmond, and Leonard?-

Can he be a Lucas Johnson? Other than that I would say Steve Roth.

He may not get that many minutes at Illinois , they more then likely were pressured into this offer by outside sources , I hope he makes a decision based on his playing time and not just because it is Illinois.

I wonder if the Illinois scholarship offer has a redshirt stipulation and if Weber was put in a corner in this as a result of the sudden interest from Michigan?

All the Michigan sites I have seen have said that UM is deciding on who they want to offer out of Max and Larry Nance Jr. but neither have been officially offered yet... and The Free Press is a joke... NEVER read that garbage...

Matt Shaw -- maybe -- but by digging a bit I find Matt Shaw regularly put up 18 ppg/8 reb against Centralia's small school opposition...and had 20/10 averages his senior year..

he was also labelled a "combo forward" from before his senior year at Centralia, as he had an outside component to his game that Max does not.
In the end Shaw never got much interest and no offers from any school higher than mid-major and chose SIU instead of Saint Louis and Creighton.

Max puts up 25/12 regularly against powerful opponents.

Max Bielfeldt received the offer from Illinois because he continues to absolutely dominate the competition he plays against. Every single team tries to find ways to double and triple team him to stop him from dominating the game and no one has yet to accomplish that this season.

There is an arguement to be made that he is the most dominate player in Illinois this season. And should be in major consideration for Mr. Basketball!

                      Illinois comes with an offer!

Michigan, Penn St, and Florida have all shown significant interest.

I agree but he won't get a single vote from anyone north of I-80

Well at least Bradley fans can stop worrying about whether or not BU is recruiting Max, has offered Max, etc.

He ain't comin. Good luck to him.

Let me just relate a story to show how Max has proven a lot of people wrong..

Back when Max was a freshman I was watching him play sitting in among a group of well known people with college connections......
Back then, Max was a relatively skinny kid with undeveloped skills, had long, shaggy, floppy hair, and at times looked like he really ought to just play JV ball...
but there was no denying his energy and attitude....

But some of the things that I heard those college coaches saying were to the effect that he'd never be big enough or skilled enough and was not ever going to be a college player....in other words -- there were a whole lot of doubters.
I am happy to see Max has silenced most of his doubters...and good for him that he's picking up plenty of college offers.
I doubt there is a single player in the state who is more valuable to the success of his team than Max is...thus by some measure he's the MVP which should translate into Mr. Basketball.

Just want to clear something up about my earlier post, Max has proven that he is deserving of D-1 scholarship offers, only hoping that he weighs in on the best place for him to go where he can make a difference and not go somewhere that he will not get to play much .
