Some teams peak to soon; I believe Duke has. Other teams like UNC build as the year goes along. I wouldn't be surprised to see Duke finish second or third in a weak ACC.
I am watching this game right now and WOW! Steve Lavin will have this school in a final four soon! He is a great coach and there is nothing I love more than seeing a coach run a full court press! He had Duke stunned and its great to see! Colin Cowherd once said, "if you are a school looking for a coach, don't go out and hire Bobby Knight, go out and get Steve Lavin......................cause he can recruit"! That's what St. John's has done and that is starting to pay dividends immediately.

I agree Lavin is a very good coach. He got a raw deal from UCLA and was probably an under-rated young coach back then. What's even more impressive is that he is doing this with the previous coaches older recruits. His recruits have yet to really make their mark. But I'm with you, by the time his first class graduates they will probably have been to a Final Four.
I always liked Lavin and I'm glad to him doing well...hope it lasts.
I met him and EA up at Minnesota when they were playing the Illini...he's a great guy to talk to and I think he was always interessted in getting into the right situation for him
This is exactly what people have said about Duke for years....
they recruit 5-Star, McDonald's All Americans, but almost all of them are slow and un-athletic........
They are great players, but every once in a while they will face a team of lesser basketball players who are BETTER athletes...faster, better jumpers, more aggressive, more energy...
and that's what I saw last night........all night long SJU grabbed rebounds over Duke guys, they were quicker to the ball, slapped the ball away, and got to the hoop so quickly it made the Plumlee's and Kelly's head spin...
Duke is very good, but this will happen again in their conference tournament and in the NCAA....I would not put all my money on Duke to win the national championship.
