  • Loss of Revenue, Fan Interest, Apathy

Being an out of town (St. Louis) BU alum...and given that I have only attended 3 games this year (but have watched most others on channel surfing)....I need some help here.

I am personally beyond my point of not wishing JL's return..But how about this Board...

When does the BU Administration Officially Weigh the Costs vs. Benefits that this is creating with Fan Apathy, Lost Revenue, and BU Reputation?

THE NATIONAL BU BRANDING / REPUTATION FOCUS THAT THE ADMINISTRATION WAS TAKING IS CERTAINLY TAKING A HIT....

All those things will be considered carefully. There are many more factors pro and con that have been discussed here.
There will not be any change before the end of the MVC tournament, but I am sure those in charge will look at everything and make a decision then.

      You hit it properly there...

I think we had a good discussion about a week ago trying to decide if there is a buyout and that cost vs the cost of lost season tickets and single game tickets and donations...

I'm not certain I could even remotely come up with a number of the latter but I could ballpark what the first one would be...

Here's how I see things personally at this very moment-- I may have forgotten a few. It should be noted that I believe any decision on firing should wait until after the MVC tournament. It feels completely unlikely, but if the team were to finish the season on a five game win streak... well for me, at least, that changes some things.

        In favor of Les:
        - Players seem to me to be putting it all out there on the floor. They haven't quit on the coach or each other. This was actually my "requirement" for judging the team this year... But the results are worse than I might have imagined, so I've come back from this being the only thing I was looking for.
        - Excellent incoming class. It's just an opinion of mine, but I think this class could be really good. Sean Harris is an unknown due to not having played in so long but the Yuba guys have been solid and this one is CoachCorn approved... Nate Wells seems like he could be the sort of "from parts unknown" recruit that can be a real boon to a mid-major. D-World is a recruit a lot of us have been hoping for for a while... And Remy Abell could soon move into the top spot of incoming player with most accolades/recognition since the advent of the recruiting sites. Playing style wise he sounds like the Iman Shumpert we just missed on and based on his play may be at a similar level; that's exciting to me. I think most or all of this class disappears if you make a coaching change.
        - System changes. Our defense and rebounding are better this season. We're struggling with our talent level and depth, obviously, but to me at least both of these aspects are improved, from a numbers standpoint and from an "eyeball" standpoint.
        - Injuries. It seems weird to put this in a "positive" sort of category, but no matter how you slice it two catastrophic season ending injuries to critical/best players should alter expectations for the season, and though the coach should never use injuries as an excuse they are one.

Undecided, I'm unsure of my position:
        - Player development. I have a more detailed post in another thread, but it actually seems like even if we've had some misses, we've also had some breakthroughs in player development. My feeling is that this is probably average, but I have no data to compare as far as other programs go. Would welcome commentary on this.

        Against Les:
        - Team playing style. 4 guards = no good. I used to have this up in the "undecided" column, because I thought Les wasn't playing his big guys because they weren't good enough. Apparently I was wrong about that. Thompson, while not as good as we wanted him to be, is at least serviceable in there (he was fine in the ISU game I thought)... Egolf isn't great but he's not a disaster. Prosser is, I think anyway, the best post player we've seen in the uniform since POB but doesn't play so that 4 guards can weave around... You can even steal some minutes with MK. AD is unknown, but with as thin as the roster is, we should probably take a look. It feels obvious when watching the game, and DallasBrave's +/- numbers after each game tell the story. It seems almost ridiculous that you can ignore those numbers or miss what seems so easy to see. Until Les goes entirely away from the 4 guard business, I will believe he's leaving wins on the table. This MUST change, and soon-- or rather a few weeks ago. I also have come to hate the weave, which was neat when it confused Kansas out of the MVC but has made me want to punch stuff for the last couple of years. I would love to see a regular motion offense with 2 guys in the post and the ball moving into and out of the post. Prosser's shooting % is the best on the team. GET HIM THE BALL.
        - Performance. This is the easy one. 0-10 in the MVC. 6-15 after starting 4-0. Somebody shoot me. If Les goes 0-19 in the Valley and Conf. Tourney I believe he must be fired, no matter what it means to anybody anywhere. Barring a mid-season turn around (shift away from 4-guards) this is nearly impossible to turn back into anything positive.
