I need help on this What's a foot stomp in basketball coaching terms, this is the first year I'm hearing about stomping the foot. I usually do that to get the snow off my shoes or lightly if my foots asleep while wiggling the toes. Does a foot stomp signify something derogatory towards an official like displeasure. Does a foot stomp always get a technical. I would think the best way to communicate with someone in a noisy stadium would be to cup each hand at the side of the mouth and holler at that person in an instructional manner and then point with the hands.

quite a few coaches use the foot stomp....my all time favorite was Rich Herrin..many coaches fold their arms at the same time(like Bruce Weber) so it must help with the amount of force foot to floor

Maybe we need these guys for our next home game?

        Bradley 72 - Illini 68 Final

???It??™s awful hard,??™??™ said Illini freshman guard D.J. Richardson, the former Central High School guard who played prep school ball a few miles from here and fought back tears outside the locker room. ???It??™s a hometown thing. It??™s bragging rights.??™

Maybe someone can correct me, but I believe the previous Jim received more than his share of T's stomping his feet...

Oh and where I stand on this (again):

Les was clearly out of the box as I saw him on the floor so that would deserve a T IF that's what the official were giving him one for which he wasn't...

While I don't disagree that stomping shouldn't get you a T even if you're doing it at an official (what are they 6 yrs old)...

I will state my original point...

Why are you yelling at anyone in any manner up by 8 with a little over a minute to go...let him get back down the court, and if he doesn't, yank him and give instruction on why you don't do what he did...

The entire display was incredibly detrimental when all he had to do was pull Will aside like most coaches would do...

I just don't believe it was the right way to go about things, but then again I never felt like screaming got me to play any harder or any better for any of my coaches...

No no no. Clearly they just had a kind discussion, perhaps a summit if you will, as to what should happen with the ball next.

I will take s stab at this. I believe Jim was yelling at Will to get up because he knew that our lead was not big enough. He did not want ISU to have a 5 on 4 advantage in a close game with little time left. Will stayed on the floor to long and was not hurt. So Jim tried to get his attention.

The time to pull Will over and have a talk is during a time out. I am sure Les knows that no lead is ever safe with our team and we need all 5 guys playing defense and not laying on the ground looking for a call. Obviously I don't know what he is thinking but I bet I am close.

you'll notice on the replay that there were a couple of other coaches getting up to encourage Will to get up...

My all time favorite foot stomper was a coach you may have heard of. A coach named Chuck Buescher

                      • I would be interested to now how many technical fouls have been called in NCAA history because of a foot stomp.

                          • For the record (as if anyone cares MY discussion/opinion on the silly T is NOT looking for a reason why we lost. I simply thought it was a horrible call. PERIOD.

I think the ref has to give a T when its deserved but he ALSO has to be sure the coach deserves one. Hearing a stomp.....how did he even know it was JL stomping....could it have been another player on the bench...another coach.....he didn't see it and assumed...thats pretty weak evidence to award a T.

BU lost but there wasn't ONE thing that "caused" the lost....a game, IMO, is filled with a myriad of events that equal a W or L.......

WHat I disliked about these refs is they were soooo demonstrative to "explain" there calls....the phantom make up call after Janks T on WE was ONE great ex. The ref made a two hand reaching behind motion to "describe' Wills foul. WE was simply backing for position and no advantage by EITHER play was gained or loss through the contact BOTH were making.

They also called another foul on WE I think it was him.....for reaching. The Ref made some exagerated reaching over motion with his arms darn near at 90 degrees when Will was straight up. As if bending his arms that far (by the ref) really showed how obvious the foul was....

Wessler was correct...2 bad teams and THREE HORRIBLE refs.

Chuck Buescher was great with the stomp at central as well.

It would rattle the whole floor.

I thought he learned it from Versace, but that may be wrong.
