Normally I would agree with most of this statement but not after tonight's game. This was one of the worst officiating crews that I have ever seen. JL's technical had nothing to do with an action toward a referee. The action was toward WE. All I can say is that the officials were lucky that I wasn't the Bradley coach tonight as I would have gone Bobby Knight on their a$$!

Speaking of the General, I doubt that he could have lived through a game officiated by this crew!

Jim Les did say on his postgame show that he intended to write to Eddie Jackson and ask him to look into the technical, since none of JL's actions were directed at the official. It shouldn't have been called. I suspect the ref knew he had blown a travelling calls on 2 different Redbirds on the possession, and then in a paranoid, rabbiteared moment, jumped to the assumption that JL's actions were meant to show up his awful job of officiating.

Can't disagree with anything you said DC.....its unfortunate BU put itself in that position...Like physics, a body in motion will tend to stay in that motion....when things are going wrong, they continue to go wrong....including bad calls at the worst time possible.

the number of wins we end with now is irrelevant but then same is true with ISU -- we're both Thursday teams..
I enjoyed the game, the atmosphere, the crowd, and the effort by our guys.
I don't like losing -- least of all to ISU, but I can handle the loss without complaing and looking for someone to blame.
Funny how the local paper talks about some teams that are horrible, bottom dwellers, playing poorly, losing continuously for years on end, and yet talks non-stop about how great they are and how injuries are the reason..
then uses the diametric opposite view vs. BU..

Jank gets T'd up for arguing a call and leaving the coaches box. (right call)
The scrap between Warren and Wilkins obviously made the officials start to call it tight. (right call)
JL had been previously warned about coming out of the coaches box (same transgression as Jank), but erroneously gets called for T for stomping at WE to get his attention. (wrong call) but during the height of the game and the non-travel call the refs saw him stomping, outside the box so to them it equaled the right call. Hard to tell a guy not to show emotion toward his players, but the officials interpreted it one way, JL another.

Crap happens! Losing an 8 point lead with less than two minutes. That was bad execution on the players and bad coaching by the staff. Equal blame in this loss.

Look at the replay...I am not thinking JL was out of the box and there were two coaches yelling at Will...

the ball is tossed to Rubin, who gets bumped while standing flat-footed with both feet planted and holding the ball...
he gets knocked off balance, and has to shuffle his feet backwards taking at least TWO full steps from his flat-footed planted position -- all while holding onto the ball, then he unloads the ball while in the midst of taking the third backwards step...and the only call that was made was for the ref to hear something on the sidelines and whistle a "T" on JL....
Even Rubin knew he had traveled and stopped playing and looked for the whistle that never came...

Anyone who says refs don't lose games for teams has got to be either lying or stupid.

They didn't lose this game for us......we lost it...you are up 8 with the ball and a 1:19 left? You have to win that game period.

For every call that went against us there was one against them just as bad and just as important....it was a poorly played and officiated game..

Just a minor point to add.. Calling that type of technical with a minute left in the game=very wrong call. Very much agree with other points in your post.

Totally! That T put the team in a bad position...to lose.
Same with the game @ Drake. Les has totally blown 2 games for BU - no wonder WE makes poor decisions. The apple doesn't fall far from the bench.

In all fairness...Jank got T'd (and deserved it) on a very bad call that happened right in front of me--Hill did not commit and offensive foul, and they took his basket away and called a charge and a T--Jank went out of the box and cussed & got his ( I think first ever? ) T. JL was warned about coming out of the box, and was way out on the floor yelling & stomping when he got his T--terrible time to do it regarless of the reason--likely cost us the game in hindsight--but I can't blame the officials for Les being stupid at that time in the game. Then, watching the tape...Egolf had little/no contact on the last play of regulation but got the call & the 2 free throws to send it to OT--break for us--more bad officiating (both ways)--but bottom line--we beat ourselves (again) it's time to pull the plug on Les.
                          Bradley football--undefeated again this year

I've seen it in previous games too. I thought last night, there WAS a lack of toughness/effort at certain points. Had we kept the intensity all night, we win by double-digits easily.

My point was that there were several calls made, whether Jank was justified due to a bad call. Using profanity could have cost his team a comeback in the end. Bad officiating, but u can't show up the refs.

JL's stomping tirade was more bad timing, but coming off of his warning and how the officials interpreted his actions on the heels of another bad call = technical foul. He was stomping, and outside the box after a warning.

What lost this game was several factors. One was the 24 and 17 by Carmichael, he had no equal on the floor. The other was the sun finally coming out for ISU. After clanking brick after brick, enuf to rebuild Renaissance, Cousin hit a 3, Ekey a 3, Wilkins a 3. Wilkins gets a outback and foul. In OT Hill becomes a beast. Couple that with a bad shooting game for AW until the end. No post toughness, missed FTs. Poor decision making.....and BU still had a chance to win. Not sure if ISU wanted it more or AW just didn't have as much help as Carmichael. But ISU fought back and stole one on bad officiating and being a deeper team. Can't say more talented because both teams are awful at this point.
