This is a breakdown of DePaul's starting five from a buddy of mine that attends DePaul University.
G-Jabari Currie, SO: A big guard who really began to "feel" the point guard position in the latter part of the season, Currie is deceptive on the break. A work in progress shooting from the perimeter, Currie is very good at driving the lane and taking contact. Average defender, but has an aura of calm, collected confidence. Seemed to develop his athleticism a bit this summer.
G-Sammy Mejia, SR: Among the countries best midrange shooters (56.8 from 2pt range), Sammy possesses the ability to carry the team on his back and lead them to victory. Weaknesses are three-point shooting and free-throws, especially in the clutch. Really under-rated defender. Can play point if needed, thus creating a matchup problem.
F-Karron Clarke, JR: An athlete who started showing signs last year of becoming a complete basketball player, Clarke is sort of the forgotten man on this team. He can be a beast on the boards, and was outstanding from beyond the arc last year. Solid defender, who disappeared during various games last year. Added strength in the off-season and now is about 6'6 220-225.
F-Wilson Chandler, SO: "He is Shawn Marion with a better jumper." Those were the words of Rick Majerus in the DePaul/Syracuse game. Very good on defense and alters shots quite often. Solid vertical and runs the floor like a gazelle. Like Clarke, he too added strength, now coming in at about 6'8 225-230. Also spent the off-season working on ball-handling and extending his range. Sometimes finds himself in early foul trouble, and had some disgression last year.
C-Wesley Green, JR: All the potential in the world, but just had three years of bad luck. Sat his first year with a medical redshirt, was out of shape and in former coach Leitao's doghouse his freshman year. Las year, he got in shape and starting coming around before an injured foot and a suspension ended his year mid-season. Excellent passer, not just for a big man but in general. Though a wide-body, has great footwork. Good offensive skills. Needs work on his lift off the floor, as he does not pull down as many rebounds as he should and not much of a threat to block shots.
PG - Currie is 6'4" 200
SG - Mejia is 6'6" 190
SF - Clarke is 6'6" 215
PF - Chandler is 6'8" 230
C - Green is 6'9" 295!
plus two other 6'8" forwards in Lorenzo Thompson senior from Chicago Crane. And a guy that had some bradley fans thinking we had a chance to get him in Thijin Moses a Freshman from Chicago Boys To Men Academy.
So what starting five do we through out there against this large DePaul starting five?
