Watching those 2 teams should give everyone an indication why we are not contending for a championship, those 2 teams have real physical inside and outside players that fight hard on the boards for every rebound, we do not have those type of inside players nor have we had anyone like them since P.O. and Z.A, how long is it going to take to get a true physical center.

I watched the 2nd half of this game. Quite the comeback by the Bears to win 67-66. A question about the end of the game...... With Missouri St up by 1, they stole the ball from Creighton with about 7-8 seconds to go in the game. Leonard dribbled out the clock and with about 1 second left he launched a high shot back toward his own basket. It came up short but the bounce went up high enough to go in. Did not go in but this would have counted as a 3 point shot for Creighton if it did right?

Originally posted by Da Coach View PostI saw that too. It would only count as a basket if it goes directly in the basket, or it can bounce off the rim or backboard. If time has expired, it cannot bounce off the floor and go in and still be good.
If the ball bounced off the floor before the buzzer went off would it count?

I started out going for MSU but ended up wishing CU won. They did have a few opportunities to win it but the refs made a difference on who walked out victorious. CU is going to be real tough to beat come March. I've said all along that I expect them to to be one of the top 2 team heading into St. Louis.

I only saw the last 7 minutes of the game, but it looked like Creighton choked. They missed their last three free throws and they gave up the game winning layup on an out of bounds play to the most obvious guy. I'm sure MSU got some calls, but that happens at home. Fade away shots by Korver aren't the way to seal the deal.
As far as the odd last second shot, I think it was dead once it hit the floor with 0:00.0 as mentioned earlier in this thread. I remember seeing this as a question on a message board or blog and I think that was the result. I'm sure the Springfield or Omaha newspaper will address this odd play.1996 & 2019

If that shot goes directly into the hoop - then it's good...
but if it bounces then it HAS TO GO thru the hoop before time expires.
I don't think Adam Leonard was actually shooting -- he was just launching the ball way up and into the backcourt knowing that time would then expire before anyone else could get it..
It really didn't come anywhere near the hoop so I doubt there was any danger of his act causing the game to be lost.
Here's an odd situation that I actually saw "nearly" happen once...
a game ending effort by a player to throw the ball the length of the court to try to get a game tying 3-pointer...
BUT -- the throw is short and the ball bounces -- but bounces up and directly into the hoop.
It does go thru the hoop before time expires...so it is ruled good, but here's the question...
Is it a 2-pt basket or is it a 3-pt basket??
answer.........it is only 2 points even though the throw came from well beyond the 3-pt arc.
Here's the rule-
"Art. 4. A (three-point) try shall end when the throw is successful, when it is certain the throw
is unsuccessful (such as out of bounds or rebounded), when the thrown ball touches the floor
or when the ball becomes dead."
Rule 4. Sectrion 71. Article 4. - page 87
Then further...
"Scoring
A.R. 134. A pass or a try for field goal by A1 comes down several feet in
front of the basket. The ball strikes the playing court without
touching any player and bounces into the basket.
RULING: Two points shall be counted for Team A when not complicated
by the expiration of time in a period or by a foul occurring
while the ball is in flight. The try for field goal by A1 ends when the
ball touches the playing court, but it is customary to credit the two
points to A1. A field goal can sometimes be scored when it is not the
result of a try. When the ball is in flight as a result of contacting the
playing court without touching any player and time expires or a foul
occurs, no points shall be scored. Neither the expiration of time nor a
foul shall cause the ball to become dead immediately during a try for
a field goal. During a pass, the ball shall become dead as a result of
the foul or expiration of time."(Rule 5-1, 4-33.1.a, 4-71.3 and 6-6.1)
(page 59)
The highlighted red area points out that if time expires after the bounce but before it goes thru the hoop -- it does not count.

I know that home team usually gets the majority of the 50-50 calls but the CU player was pushed with TWO hands when he was under the basket right in front of the refs. I just do not know how they missed that call. Sorry that was not a 50-50 call but a clear cut foul. Instead MSU got the ball and went down and scored. It was such a horrible call that McDermot probably should have been T'ed up when he protested but the ref knew he blew it. Another embarrassing display of the quality of refs in The Valley."Educate and inform the whole mass of the people...they are the only sure reliance for the preservation of our liberty."
