That is funny and I enjoyed it...but over the years I have encountered two different types of coaches...when someone (myself included) doesn't think their kid is getting enough playing time...
-either the coach says all those things that were in the video and says that's what a kid needs to do to get more playing time
--or the more common situation I encounter -- the coach says precisely the opposite -- and 180 degrees different...
that regardless of all those factors, how much time the kid puts into it, or how hard a kid works or even how much he runs his mouth off...the kids with the MOST talent as judged by the coach will get the most playing time.
EVEN if those kids' presence on the team is destructive and even if that kid breaks team rules or athletic code violations....
Thus, what do you think that does to all the kids' desire to come in next summer and work out or lift weights or practice harder? They give up since the hard work, extra effort, staying clean, and following the rules never gains them a thing because the coach has already made up his mind and knows who he wants to play before tryouts, practices, or the season even began.
I have encountered plenty of coaches whose discernment of playing time is based only on a weak suspicion of who's most talented or who the kid's parent are...

That was pretty funny! As a coach, I can relate to that. I once had a parent corner me in my classroom before school to "talk" about his child's playing time. I gave my reasons and even pointed areas that the player should work on. He started listing the other players and asking why they played more...and I would tell him and he just kept on saying you are wrong...you are wrong. He eventually went over my head to my administrator and yelled at her.....she backed me up by pointing to the banners hanging in the gym and saying "I think he knows what he is doing"! Funny thing was, the player did dedicate herself to working harder and addressed the problem areas of her game and ended up starting for 2 years for me!Some see a hopeless end, while others see an endless hope.
